Well the time has come. The 1990 f250 7.3 idi na 4x4 just can't really pull my 28ft travel trailer. I was in first gear on a hill to 15mph. I've learned a bunch from this from reading and I thank everyone for there help. As I don't want to see it go I just don't feel it will have the potential without putting more money into as I've spent 5k on getting it running. But I would still like to thank everyone who had made place with a lot information.

I hate to see you get rid of it too. Just because you don't own one doesn't mean that you can't stick around. You may have the key to someone else's problem. 79jasper hasn't had one for a few years (I think) and he's still here with valuable info. I can see where you'd REALLY need a turbo on your truck too. Sometimes it's hard to justify putting that much more money into a truck this old.

I'm pulling a 30ft trailer that's pushing 10k. Same truck as you but 2wd with the e4 auto. Before I did the turbo it was a dog, it really sucked. I installed one of typ4 Russ's ATS turbo kits a baby moose pumps and a 4" exhaust. Couple of grand tops. It's a whole different experience, runs up most hills with traffic. W/O the trailer it actually scoots pretty good. Don't sell it...

I would say something is amiss power wise.

Before I turboed my 93' I pulled a 14k (scaled) trailer from Houston Tx all the way to Lynchburg Va.

E4OD w/3.55 gears and 35 inch tires. Yes it was a dog and 65 was about all I could do but I made it without issue. Got down to 40ish on a couple steep grades but nothing as bad as 15.

Where you at a high elevation?

I have no clue on elevation not that high I couldn't do 65 on the high way it was fighting the egts where getting to 1000 degrees. So I was doing 50 the whole way then when I hit the grade it started backing down.

I've been looking in my area for one for a little while now and no one has one. The only thing I can think of is buying a new banks sidewinder or going through r&d or someone else if anyone else makes a turbo for this motor.

Is your pump turned up at all? Possibly too much fuel for the amount of air causing the high egt's? Would be worse at elevation.
Either way I understand how frustrating that would be.

Barley not enough for it black smoke if it don't only for a sec then it clears up. But at full throttle there is none just a little at take off and when it lugs down.

Contact Russ typ4 here on the forms he will ship you a good used kit with a rebuilt Turbo. Upgraded turbo if you like...

I'll get a hold of him. Does anyone know where to get the timing stuff for these pickups?I asked my snap on dealer when he came to are shop and he said it was 300 for the pulse detector.

Try advancing the pump by turning it towards the passenger side. High egts can be caused by retarded timing and give poor performance
