@towcat how would one look up the max gross weight each state in the lower 48 could limit before needing a CDL

your local DOT office (chicken coop) would be a good start. also, your DMV will have licensing thresholds. you can almost count on kali being the gold standard. they do set the pace for the rest of the nation.

I called local DOT n they told me 24,999 but DMV says 26,001 so it has me wondering if they even talk to each other or just use the latter figure

I would go with the DOT standard since they would be the ones to nail you're a$$ to the wall... I don't think either one of them knows about the other.. gotta love government...

with a fudge factor of of 1000lbs, that's pretty close considering the weights we're dealing with.

That was one of my main things some family of mine offered me a few rigs that was my first cousins and uncle/aunt's n the tow weight is odd to me n id be using my 7.3 idi over the summed.

1. "85 Toyota r22 all og 4x4 with only 99k miles

2. A 80 something c10 converted to a 4x4

3. Pure farm fresh rat rod aka like let's see if this works rig

if you're passing through, your base state plate will determine what limits you have. But you can't be over your chassis sticker/cert plate. Arrowcraft conversions were popular with the snowbirds for some time until WADOT put their foot down and said "no....you're not going anywhere in that configuration" i had some friends get stopped cold at WA port of entry with their fiver. I drove up to there with the Nostromo and swapped out trucks with them for the remainder of their trip. When he returned my truck at the end of summer, he gave it a full service and changed all the rubber. belts, hoses, tires. Put the same brands back on too. Untill he passed away a couple of years ago, he had unlimited access to any of my rigs. Lord knows he earned it.

believe it or not, it's constitutionally protected. no state can ***** barriers to other states to impede commerce. that is why Kali must allow smog non-compliant big rigs into the state, but there is a cap at 72 hours for a non-compliant rig to be in the state. Also, DOT is generally afraid of messing with the bluehairs in the RV's. They are retired with nothing better to do than talk to each other all day long and most importantly, they vote. that is why regs governing RV's are the slowest to get enacted. In the meantime, you have a bluehair with impeded cognitive function piloting a 35k/lb diesel powered missile on the highway. :O

Ok have to tap into ur brain my 93 7.3 idi non turbo says gvwr is 8.8k so if the dot class for under the CDL license limit it 26k how would one figure fuel the rig ur towing as well as if the motor/all fluids are drained plus the trailer.

8.8 is your gvw. 26k is gross combined. that also includes everything. oil, water and driver :O
