when I first built the engine for my 87,
I added Russ's torque cam.
the engine ran great, minus the fact that it had a internal water leak.
now that ive replaced the engine due to this.

I MISS MY TORQUE CAM! LOL

noticeable increase in power.
I can compare it to running your truck with boost and no boost.
completely different!

if youre on the fence about getting a cam,
I say, DO IT, AND DO IT NOW!

Noticed a huge difference on the butt dyno after installed one in my buddy's bull Moosed 6.9. Definitely will vouch for Russ' cam upgrade as well.

Well this is news to me....;Really:rolleyes::angel:

Rus has been able to help so many with this cam I'm surprised everyone has not installed one. Its definitely on my to do list. Sadly the list is longer than santa's wish list. I just know I will be adding this to my rig... Ad I don't mean adding this behind the rear seat...:flipa:flipa;Poke

Okay... Gary that made me laugh. LOL

Be glad you have a running driving vehicle...

Besides, nothing but fear and common sense keeping you from swapping the cam over right? :D

that's cool to have someone know the drastic difference and all and your making me want to rip out my rad and top end to swap it out.....damn you! :D though i don't drive chip truck full time anymore so i don't care lol and log trucks 5:13 are silly enough as is.......but anyway, this begs the question; why didn't you change cams over before putting the replacement engine in?

Gary, hows that intercooler coming along? :D

I have full intentions on rebuilding a short block, and swapping everything over.
this engine is temporary. but you all know how that goes....
I will definitely rebuild, but it may get put into something else lol
maybe a certain 63 or a certain 41 :D

I think more importantly, he didn't want to pull the front cover and have another fiasco there. Lol
At least that's how I would feel about it.

I really wanted to be the smart a$$ to say that but I was trying to be nice. :D

I wouldn't have pulled the cover either if I had been through what you had.

So engine work is really fun to do. Others are plain pain in the ass type work. you decide.. As for intercooler.. Yeah.. I'm on that .... NOT... Its finally raining here and I love it. Best time to do garden work... "Nope Honey.. I can't do that till the rain stops"... SORRY...;Really:rolleyes::eek::rotflmao

Better enjoy that excuse. It rains in SoCal what every decade or so??

Usually it more like, " I can't do the gardening today, Honey. The sun is way too bright, and I might get a sunburn, or maybe heatstroke, or want too many beers, or whatever."

It should be said that if your going to install the typ 4 cam you have to check your clearances, piston to valve and preload on your lifters.
Awhile back I had posted abt. a tick in my motor and the consensus was a bad lifter.
What I found was zero preload on my lifters, that was my tick, I had a feeling I should pull the heads...................

You must be registered for see images attach

all the pistons had valve imprints.

This obviously could have been a disaster if I kept running it.

My motor falls within factory specs. so don't assume you can just slide this cam in and run with it, your going to have to do a bit more work.
I'm not an isolated case, they're are others that had the exact same problem.
