this isn't the extra wide DRW sterling axle found under factory 2wd dually pickups, which bring anywhere from $500 to 1k.

Does anyone know the difference in width of the axles? I guess a flange to flange measurement would be most helpful.

I am starting to warm up to a new vision of fixing the 87and getting rid of the 85. A 1 ton 4x4 could crawl around the desert at will with the right tires, I just need to design or buy a camper type body to mount on the back. Or reinstall a flatbed and pitch a tent.

I will give a hand picking up this new to you rig but... No more 2 wheel dollies for me after our last Bob's Big Adventure".... We sure made memories that day at the airport. Thats one of the only times I could do nothing to get the truck back up on the tow rig. And the triple A driver sure knew his business by the way he "fixed our issue"...:thumbsup::thumbsup::rolleyes::D

Thanks, Gary! It will probably be early July 16. I will let you know more as time draws near. I have free access to a full trailer, if the rig isn't too heavy. I'll rent one if necessary. It is in Goffs, CA near Needles, in case you want to change your mind. It will probably be all day out and back.

Any thoughts about the weight of a Cab & Chassis f350 4x4? I have not started looking for a resource on the interwebs yet, but imagine it is about the same as my truck with a bed, about 5600 lbs. At 10-14k GVW, I might be way wrong, too, with all the springs and front axle, nevermind the dualie sterling out back.

Sorry Mike I have no idea what the weight might be. I would be concerned about the trialer length most of all. Sounds like nearly a 20 hour day to get there.. Load up and drive back. I recal our drivers with Edison would send a driver from the Mohave /Generating station to meet up with a driver from around here. They both would meet in Barstow at Coolwater Generating. Almost the same place as Solar One. Either unhook trailers or trade off trucks and return to stations. Edison was cheaping out on over nighting drivers from here to Needles station or vice versa.. Sounds like fun. Lets hope for rain and clouds in July...:eek:LOL:D

Trailer is 16', but he seems to think it has a 6k capacity. It is a dual axle, so I would expect it could haul 4 tons, anyway. The f350 is 137 inch wheelbase. I plan to take off the outer wheels in order to get it on the trailer. So far, I have not found any weight information. I'll look at my 1985 factory manuals to see if they have anything.

I expect to leave around sunup, maybe earlier, from home in San Bernardino (I'll give you address/directions). Drive time would be about 3 hours at 60 mph. 2 hours to load and screw around should be enough, 3-4 hours to get home is a 9 hour day, not including stops for sightseeing, smelling flowers and eating.

Look at the door tag on the driver's door. Should have that.

It had GVW but I am trying to determine the actual unladen weight. It was originally an IV (incomplete vehicle) and those door tags are a little different than the pickups.

Also I'm sure there's a difference.
But my 1994 F350 C&C 7.3 powerstroke, 4x4, with a lighter flatbed comes in around 7,000.

Any thoughts about the weight of a Cab & Chassis f350 4x4?

my chip truck weighs around 8k lbs but it's got a heavy stake body, dump bed on it which has got to be around 1500 lbs i should think all easy with the stake body, dump ram and heavy c-channel construction......wouldn't be too surprised if it's closer to a ton.

nevermind the dualie sterling out back.

the cab and chassis don't use a "dually sterling".they use narrower frame spacing and leaf springs instead.this is why dually wheels fit.
