Well guys, after all the time and money I've sank into my truck, I was in a pretty scary accident with it yesterday. I was slowing down to turn into our office parking lot and was hit in the rear by an f150 that was doing about 45-50, a witness that saw it said that I went airborne. I ended up about 50 feet from impact point and took out a stop sign and a palm tree. My truck ended up between another Palm tree and an office building, I just cleared hitting the building.
Scariest part about it all was that when he hit me, my arms fell in my lap and I thought I was dying.
My wife was following behind the truck that hit me, so it was a pretty scary thing for her to witness also. I couldn't move my arms or use my hands to get out of the truck, my wife and a bystander had to get me out and shut the truck off.
I had about 10 grand invested in this truck and will never see that from the insurance company. As hard as it is to find these old trucks, I'll probably just end up with a newer gasser. I would like to thank everyone for all the years of great help that I have found here and would still like to be considered as one of you guys. If things permit, I may try to get up to towcats for the GTG, but unfortunately it won't be in a diesel.

Wow.

Sorry to hear that. Glad you personally are OK. Sounds like you might want to take it easy for a bit...

Has to be tough to have your truck taken out like that. Sorry pal.

Definitely stick around here tho!

First off, glad you are okay. That old truck may have saved your life and if that was its final act, then it earned a proper burial. My 88 saved my brothers life years ago when he totaled it. I was pissed that it was gone but he walked away and that's what was important.

This is the kind of thing that scares me about my truck. I plan on having a discussion with my insurance agent about how to deal with this. It may cost me a little more but, a few bucks a month might help offset the cost of loosing it. My main concern really has been safety through this build. Funny how that works the older you get.

You never know. Poke around and you might just find a decent truck. At least you know what to do and not to do now.

The important things have already been said, and said quite well. First and foremost is your own safety and health. Glad to hear that you, yourself, are in good condition. From the sound of it you're not in hospital, so that is good. Your truck can be replaced far easier than you can be. It acted as the sacrificial lamb, and saved your butt from serious injury.

With luck we'll see you at Calvin's GTG, but don't push yourself to be there if your condition isn't good enough.

Glad to hear your OK. Gonna have a sore neck tomorrow. I would go and have that neck checked out, probable numb now. You mentioned your arms/hands was numb, ever see a NASCAR driver leave go of the steering wheel when they get hit? Broken arms, broken fingers or hands are the result if they hang on. Don't everyone that owns an IDI have a pile of jack in them? I know I had 12K in a 90, gave it to my Grandson last year. LOL

Thank goodness you're okay...of course that's the most important part, although I also can understand the heartbreak around your pride and joy being destroyed like that, especially after pouring so much money into her.

I'm sorry, man...

Yikes! At least it's not Game Over for you. Definitely get your neck checked out. It could be broken, and you might not even know it. My GF ran her own ambulance service for years and strongly encouraged those involved in accidents of this nature to get their neck checked out, even if they felt fine. She told me the story of one guy who said he felt fine, but she convinced him to go to the hospital the get it checked, just in case. Turns out he had a broken neck! He was sure grateful she convinced him to get taken in.

Hate to hear that.

I have been saving all my receipts on my truck, for just such an occurrence. I hope I never have to use them, but if I get hit by someone, I don't want to be cheated either just because my truck looks old.

I hope it turns out good for you. I hate to see all those good parts go to the scrap yard though....l

dang similar thing happened to me last october except i got shoved onto a flatbed trailer in front of me. You are in for a heck of a fight. I am still dealing with the insurance on medical stuff. Get completely checked out, x-ray and MRI. also fight to get into physical therapy as soon as possible. It took several months of going 2-3 times a week for my neck to finally get to the point where it didnt hurt all the time. Good luck with everything. get better first then look for a new truck.
