ok this maybe dumb but im wondering if anyone knows what this is, well i found out by searching its a fuel filter housing for the powerstrokes but it has a pump inside it.. im wondering if its suitable to be a electric fuel pump for an idi..

this is the part im talking about if mine aint exact its very close. btw i work at a core place so i see tons of different things i just happen to see diesel running out of this and thought it was a electric fuel pump

That's a fuel bowl for a first generation powerstroke. There's nothing even remotely close to a fuel pump in it. It's just a housing for the fuel filter, fuel heater, and fuel pressure regulator.

Oh, and the part that's broke? Renders the fuel pressure regulator useless. It's not "useable because there's still threads on it". It's a very specific fitment.

Post up a pic of what you've got. The only thing in the powerstroke fuel bowl that has 12v running to it is the heater element.

none of the 7.3 powerstrokes have an electric pump in that fuel bowl. the obs psd's use a mechanical pump similar to ours but theirs sits in the valley. the superduty 7.3l's have a frame mounted electric fuel pump, but nothing that pumps in that filter housing. can you take a picture of the one you have. the only thing i could think of is maybe from a 6.0l or a 6.4. not totally sure how those filters are set up though.

Welp, I can say I've never seen one of those. At least not on my '94 powerstroke I haven't... and I've been through that engine a LOT. It's definitely not a fuel bowl.

CALLED IT!!! hahahahaha

It is the horizontal fuel conditioning module, aka, frame mounted fuel filter from a 6.0l psd.

now that we know what the thing is...to answer your question about if it would work on the idi....no it won't work. it puts out in the neighborhood of 55-60psi if memory serves. WAY WAY WAY to much for the idi.

Ask him from personal experience... LOL yes it can be turned down, but even with low pressure, the volume is too much and it creates back-pressure in the return system. Makes an IDI run like crap.

*****!!! yeah, what he said ^^^. i learned that one the hard way lol. you would need a bypass style regulator. then run a dedicated return from the regulator back to one of your fuel tanks or else you will have WAY to much return line pressure and it will absolutely kill the performance of you engine. it would be so much easier to get a duralift or similar out put cater pump and run that. no need for a regulator, easy to wire up and easy to plumb the lines. no need for a dedicated return either.
