It would appear I've got some timing on propane engines to do in near future, and along with that I've come to the conclusion that the addtion of a digital timing light with advance opens up more diesel timing than my current options with the Kent Moore meter I have!

Thus these are what I'm looking at at this time
Equus

Craftsman

Equus again

Anyone have any suggestions, that may be useful or experience with these?

I'd surely like to hear from ya'll.

It's a long road to success and timing is paramount!

I have one made by Actron, has similar features to the ones posted. I like mine, can use it like a typical old timing light, if an engine is really out of time you can dial it one way or the other to at least get a visible mark and see how far off you are, also shows RPM. Mine claims it can be used on distributorless systems although Ive never had a reason to try, I think you will be happy with the update!

Al.. Your J33300 will time using a timing lite just by changeing a couple of rocker switches. No need for a lite like your looking at. Just an adjustable timing lite is all thats needed.

I have the Equus 5568 and I love it. Amazon had it for right at $100 when I picked it up and it works great, very handy, lots of features in one package. the only time I had trouble was when I didn't get the pickup in the right spot, then the timing would "jump" all over the place.

I had an Equus and went to the digital OTC...have never looked back.
Please provide more info and or linky thingamajiggy

Gary I know a Basic advance unit would work with the KM J33000 however I've got some other requests from a friend to time his propane engine properly as he's not sure the curve on the dist etc so I need to track RPM and Timing at same time thus the fancy one provides both and makes it simple for gasser.

I'm aware of critical seperation of wires while timing and correct positioning of clamp as well.

There is likely about half a dozen timing lights in my shop, mostly old old archaic versions of ancient relics more or less wall art, none provide an advance feature. All or mostly all are the funny clamp on a spring that goes onto your plug and then plug wire on that spring! I have one cheap ass induction clamp one.

Those old ones came in a box of tools purchased a couple years ago. Don't even know if they are functioning or not.

Just maybe time to invest in a good light!

I've been reading and the Equus seems to get good reviews. None alledgedly work well with a multi spark ign from what I read.

I've got an old sears/craftsman POS that works just no advance again.

Maybe I should hang those puppies on the wall ROFL
