Last Friday morning after work the ball joint/ tie rod end that the last owner of my truck fixed the clutch linkage with broke. Came to a stop sign pressed in the clutch and SNAP pedal on floor no clutch floated gears and got it home. Rigged it up to make it work for a few days until I could find parts. Got it together today with a nice heim joint WOW now that's a smooth clutch!! It actually feels much softer also.
I've read that floating gears with a zf-s5-42 is real bad. The sychronizers are a softer metal. I would say I know this from experience, but actually a pto box took out my whole trans. I'll get pics if you want.
On a sm465 I can float gears all day long. Even down into first for stop signs.
Now back to the heim joint, I'm sure you could make a few bucks on ebay with these.

This is the best picture I could get. Basically you cut the eye end off the shaft and thread it to put a joint on. I was going to make some up but there was no interest so I never made any.

that is a great picture!!;Sweet thank you so much. why is the heim joint better than the regular joint style? my rod has the hole all egged shaped now and i am looking to replace it. i would be interested in buying one from you if you want to make one. i do not have the ability to make one myself. can you install a new rod without pulling apart the dash? i am just starting to look into this project, so i am just trying to gather info. thanks!!

The heim joint fix gives you a much smother feeling clutch it like a different truck when you do this. You do not have to pull any of the dash apart you just go under the.dash and remove the push rod. You will need a special tool to remove the push rod.

I have not made any push rods yet. The one in my truck is just a reworked stock push rod that is working just fine. If you are interested I have a few stock push rods I will rework one and ship it out to you. Then send me your junk one so I have a couple push rods.

I can do this as an exchange program. I will send out a reworked push rod that a heim joint will fit on to who ever needs one as long as they send me a factory push rod back and a little money for doing the work and shipping. I will also make up a push rod removal tool I will send along with the push rod
and you can send back to me when you ship me your push rod.

You still have to get the tab off the clutch pedal to remove the pin that the push rod is attached to. It's NOT a bolt on application.

i am assuming you mean that little tab that is bolted to the heim in the picture? :dunno that looks fairly easy to take off and then drill it out to accept the bolt, correct?

ADV i would really love that. i just want to clarify a few things. this would NOT come with a heim, but would be ready for one to be screwed on. what would the price be? thanks for your help.
