Passenger rear tire blew out today, felt the need to destroy my exhaust and the wheel well of the bed. I was planning on throwing a stack on it soon, so the exhaust doesnt really bother me, but the fact that it wrecked the bed is really irritating. Thinking now might be the time to upgrade to a flatbed/service bed; not a fan of the look though

Im not really one who cares a lot about aesthetics but Im about to get a fresh coat of paint thrown on this thing so Might as well try and fix it first!

Really crunched the exhaust...
Guess now ill either fix it, get a new bed, or switch over to a utility/flatbed (utility beds can be had VERY cheap out here)

Anyone ever see a lifted f250 with a utility bed? Wonder how it would look ;Really

Well that is a bummer......But it looks fixable. I think the pickup beds look a lot better than flatbeds, etc on a single wheel, but thats just my opinion. I blew that same tire on my 95 PSD once and it took out the side of the bed, had to put a new outer on....

Why did that tire let go... Can you post up the date stamp numbers so we know how old the tire was. Being around all kinds of horse trailers al the time I see those crappy Goodyear Marathon ST tires blow from just sitting in the racks having never even rolled a mile on the roads... Never ever buy goodyear st marathon tires...

Tires could be pretty old ill go check the date on them. Dont think I hit anything, road was hot and brand new pavement was layed down recently, not sure if that effected it.

Here is another live shot of the carnage, cant believe it bent the exhaust that much just slapping around. Couldnt have been going much faster then 55 was in a highly policed construction zone

*EDIT* Forgot to put the picture in...

Yeah the more I look at it the easier it seems; Im just irritated I guess haha. Only tough part will be either welding a new piece onto the bedsides for the new bed supports to attach to; or figuring out another way to stiffen it.

April of 2003 is what you had. Any tire more than 5 years old needs to be replaced. Thats a safety thing. The industry found thats about the time when the steel belts start seperating from the carcus. Run your hand over the tread. sometimes you will feel "bumps" in the thread. Thats seperation and its ready to blow... I call them MAYPOPS.... May pop at any time...:D:sly

I recently saw a 2000 f250 with a smaller service body off of a s10 or something, it was very clean and compact as apposed to bug and bulky. it lined up with the cab and was high enough for his 4x4 to have wheel well clearance.

Or any Goodyear tire for that matter. Good lord goodyear makes some $hitty tires. it's not even funny.

Pat is right. 4th week of 2003. DOT standards do not allow you to service any tire 10 years or older. to say working on tires of that age is sketchy would be an understatement.

Kind of surprised that Michelin gave out on you, albeit tires of any make live a hard life on these trucks.

Yeah they had a tough life out here in the desert so they dont owe me anything.

Interesting the small utility body idea. The bodys I have seen are too large and bulky, the small one could be just what im looking for! Will have to look around.

I bent the bed back as good as I could, looks alright. Will snap a pic of it tomarrow when its light out again!

DesertBen..... we both are in AZ... heat, sunshine and age are not our friends when it comes to tires... you are lucky to have made it so long on that set... Get new ones soon.. real soon... my limit is 5 yrs here in AZ. This summer I had 3 tires explode on cars/trucks that were just parked, all from the 115 degree heat... in each case, the tire that blew was facing the full sun, and at around 3 PM "bang".... They were tires that "looked good"... and were just past the 5 yr mark. Glad I wasn't driving at the time on each of them.
[and yeah.. I have to many... haha]
