Lol nice one Oldbull! lol

Yea I had a 00' F350 w/ hips a few years back. I loved that thing, and not sure what possessed me to sell it. Probably the big fat profit I made on it, but still regret selling it

Thats odd that commiefornia is less strict on testing than Colorado.

Here even our IDI"s have to be tested (unless yours is registered in a rural area like mine is)

I talked to a dealer I know the other day and he said they don't even want 7.3 PSD's on their lot anymore because of the risks/liability that it wont pass emissions w/o them spending some serious dough to get it to past. Emissions in Colorado must be getting tough!

Cali looks at it this way, the early strokes were not electrically advanced in the ECM control area to impose smog tests. Plus the popularity of the 99 and newer trucks on the road they out number the OBS early strokes by a very large margin, not enough money for the to impose it ,yet.

Leave the gasoline out of that mix, not good for a Diesel

http://www.turbodieselregister.com/mixing_gasoline_and_diesel.htm

I understand what your saying Oldbull, and I have been around diesels a long time myself. Have owned 4 IDI trucks, 2 PSDs, and several 12 valve Cummins since 1986. Trained as a diesel tech back when mechanical injection was the only game in town.

That said, I dont believe everything that engineers say. I do put a lot of stock in real time user input. At this point I have had success with the W85 blend in my 89 and a lot of other users have had good results with it also. The idea is to (1) thin the oil closer to D2 viscosity, and (2) the RUG helps the WMO to release its contaminates while the blend is settling. Bear in mind were blending the gas with oil, not diesel.

But, I shouldn't hijack his thread. Further discussion of this needs to go in the Biofuels forum....

A PSD is NOT condusive to this. http://www.oilburners.net/forums/showthread.php?54698-quot-Off-the-Grid-quot

There that should DO IT.

Edit: Oh wait, yeah, go get a nice new FORD 2013 PSD, nice ride into town, beside it will help sustain my retirement from good O'le FOMOCO.:hail :D

good readings here!!! i am having same thoughts on newer truck... i love 92-97 ford body style best look ever if you ask me... i really like my 94, BUT its getting to the point of do i want to replace the injectors, replace the IP, put a new clutch in it, upgrade the down pipe, put more gearing in the axles, and it seems my list could keep going... All to just be able to tow my play truck around better... or just get a pull truck that already has newer ammenities..

FWIW, I have an '01 Excursion and am just shy of 10K miles with W85 on it. There's a few more steps over an IDI to get it to drink it the right way but it's not that hard and the fuel savings (cue Tony the Tiger voice) taste GRRRRREAAAT.

But if you really want to convince yourself not to get a new truck, take the extra money you'd spend and head over to Bangkok, Brasilia, Puente Del Mar, Mazatlan...any of those will do. Compare the fun you had seeing the world with the fun you think you'll have in the new truck and I'm guessing you'll be loving the IDI that much more;Really

Not that I want to talk to you into a new rig......aka a house payment!........when you guys are talking about parts to replace those trucks like injectors and whatnot wouldnt bumper to bumper warranty (or whatever it is) cover those things?

I should add I have no idea how warranty works, and from what ive heard stealerships try and blame the failed part on the owner most of the time

Even if I bought one w/ a warranty they'd flip out when they saw Black Fuel in the fuel tank. :sly

Yes, your right most stealers are quick to try and void a warranty. When I had my LMM Duramax I had a lot of dancing to do to prove it was still stock when it needed a new EGR, DPF, and Turbo w/ less than 5k miles on the clock. (truck was stock, BUT I had a power box sitting in the back seat when I dropped it off that was about to go on it. I forgot to take it out of the cab when I dropped it off for work. :rotflmao )

I had a 6.0 for years. Best truck I've ever had. Truck had balls bigger than any other. For a little bit of money you can get a bullet proof motor. Now I only ran ulsd, injectors are rediculously too expensive to do anything else.

I have an 05 6.0. No tunes or performance upgrades. Runs like a ***** ape. Sucks you back in the seat. EGR cooler took a crap at 265,000mi. FICM failed at 270,000. At 281,000 now and running strong. Has quite a miss on a cold morning but let it warm up for 15 minutes and its rarin to go. I like 6.0s. People who talk crap on them are irresponsible owners. All they need is a little extra care, (Cleaner oil, good batterys, etc etc.) The reason injectors fail in the 6.0s are because people dont change their oil frequent enough and dirty oil just kills the spool valves in the injectors. And the FICMs fail due to low voltage. People have junk batterys and just jump start it every once in a while and think its okay. Now, EGR coolers are just bad design. But 200 dollar EGR delete kit and 8 hours of your time, you can have it EGR free. Oh, and almost forgot, turbo failure is also due to crappy oil. Sorry about the book. I just like to rant.

I like the 6.0 but it will never tolerate poor fuel. The 7.3 strokes will. Infact my good friend bought a 7.3 superduty to drive instead of his 6.4 just because he could burn wmo in it. He goes 50/50 which is a great savings and with a mileage tune they aren't bad.

My personal favorites are OBS strokes. They don't ride as nice as a superduty stock but they can. I will tell you this. At the end of the day when i get home from the shop, the LAST THING I WANT TO DO IS FIX MY OWN TRUCK. The engine, transmission have been perfect. Any issues i've had, have been with inferior quality parts.

the 7.3l stroke my buddy has clocked over 212K on the stock injectors on WMO. The truck has 250K, mostly origional except for both UVCH, a fuel pump (went with a upgrade raptor) and 2 water pumps.

True. My 6.0 only gets 14 around town.
