I had a buddy who paid 200 bucks for a little Honda car and ended up paying like 600 to the DMV to get it back on the road. Ouch, at least this guys is up front about it.

Sadly, that's probably just a parts truck at this point. That bed looks to be in good shape; shame I don't have anywhere to store the truck to take it apart...

From what i have seen in oklahoma, I would buy that truck for 900.00 and pay 1300.00 in california and bring it to oklahoma and register again, and still would be one heck of a deal!!! I guess I live in the wrong part of the country

Why does it cost $1300 to register it?

I'm looking at possibly taking a job in CA, and don't want to get hosed like that. I'm finding that CA will squeeze every freakin dollar out of me in a dozen different ways, as soon as I hit the 30-day in-state time limit.

It cost me $200 to register my van in NM for two years, and $135 of that was pure BS fees like "tire disposal", and "road maintenance".

I pay 300 to the DMV for my truck each year, and 70 for my 1990 Honda car. If you let that lapse, then someone has to pay the piper. You can file a non-operation slip on a car for about 30 bucks if you don't drive it at all.

if someone in another state buys the truck, like AZ I think all fees are avoided. just haul it home or in my case get a permit and drive it home.

Problem is a california resident purchased the truck. The reg fees have to be paid even if the truck is transferred to another out of state purchaser. If a person buys the truck and takes it out of state then they'll have to do another lein sale or just use it for parts. My dually was just totalled last night while parked so this truck interests me.

If an out of state person purchases a vehicle and has it titled to an out of state address then california is supposed to waive the past due reg fees. But the seller is a resident and a title has to be cut in that person's name. Dmv will require that all fees be paid before the title is printed. Lein sale paperwork is only good in the state that issues it.
