So I changed out 4 of my glow plugs today (3 were bad on a tight budget so planning to do the other 4 later) the new 1s were spade connect and the 1s that were in the truck were bullet connect which would've cost me another 10$ apiece so I just cut the wires and crimped on spade connectors so I can't understand what happened next the truck started ok but still not like it suppose to then after driving it a bit I noticed it'd stated idleing at 900-1000 which it usually is around 600 then I noticed the temp going up and tried turning on the heater and the heater didn't blow so I checked to see if I blew a fuse thee was 1 30a blown but I don't know what its to because theres no fuse diagram but I replaced it and figured it'd solve the problem but when I tried turn the heater on it still didn't work and nothing else seemed to change initially but then when I tried to turn the truck off it kept running and didn't turn off for a while and when the key was out it also had the e brake indicator light on (which also has always came on when I've plugged my phone into the cig lighter so I don't know what that's about) after a few tries of turning the key from run to off and back the engine finally shut off slower than normal but that brake light comes on any time the key its in the off position so I pulled the fuse back out before leaving the truck

So you bought the ZD1 which are for the 6.9 engine, that's why they are spade, ZD9 is the bullet connectors which were update for the 7.3.

What is your truck? Put it in your signature. Hard to answer questions about an unknown truck.

When on top of the engine,

Didja lean on the alternator housing, the radiator cap, IP shut down wires, or other related stuff??

That's the only relationship between the symptoms and changes to system I can figure out.

The bullet connector glow plugs are for the solid state system. The spade are for the temperature controlled system. The spade type won't work with the solid state system as far as I know. It uses the change in voltage to sense glow cycle while the older spade system uses coolant temperature.

I've got a85 6.9 I may have got on the radiator cap but other than that my foot was on the valve cover and the firewall I read about the job before I did it and to the guy that suggest its because of the glow plug difference I have thought of it possibly being due to didn't voltages but as far as what the glow plug senses I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure glow plugs don't sense anything and are simply timed but I do appreciate all the input very much and I will look into the radiator cap any ideas as to the heater motor stopping? Or the replacing the fuse causing the not wanting to stop running and brake indicator light coming on?

Glow plugs dont sense anything, you are correct, but the controller, more specifically, the solid state controller, does. If you have an 85, there are several things that could have happened, either someone converted it to a solid state controller, or changed engines. The bullet style, known as the solid state controller, came into use in late 87 6.9's and later 7.3's. While it may or not be related, if you have the solid state controller (see picture) which is usually mounted on the center rear of the engine, using the spade connector glow plugs could be causing strange draw on your electrical system.

Ok that kinda makes a lil more sense so if I bypass the controller and put in a push button setup that should solve that problem but still whats up with my heater why isn't it blowing at all anymore?

If its not moving air, in the fan not running, it could be a bad blower motor, bad ground, etc. Does it run at all? Low speeds? Hi speed? There is a resister on them that controls the lower speeds, then the resister is bypassed to run on high IIRC.

Or does it just not make heat?

It worked perfectly before but now it puts out heat if the vent is open but it doesn't blow at all the blower motor completely stopped working in any setting

I'd say to trace the wiring and see if a plug got disconnected or something. Depending on how the controller is wired, that could be a possible cause as well. Hard to tell how the newer controller is wired. Just a thought, but something changed when you changed the glow plugs it sounds...so start there.

First post , really hard to read without punctuation, just sayin.

I am guessing if he bought the truck in the Eugene area, it may be either farmer, or hippie cobbled together.

Ya its loggerized back bumper used to be tank for saw gas lol that give any insight to help me?

Forgot about the loggers, you are in for a host of wiring issues if they hacked it. Get a manual and just start looking it over.
