It's a 5 hour drive and I work 80 hours a week. I can barely find time to clean up my yard let alone make a 10 hour round trip. It would cost me less to pa the back fees, literally. This one hada couple owners without doing paper work which complicates it further. I really needed the engine for my crew cab flat bed to, so it was destined to die. I save the good ones usually but this one had to go....

So let me get this straight.

In CA you have to pay registration EVERY YEAR? Even if the vehicle is not on the road?

So if it is off the road for say 3 years and registration is 250 a year. When you go to put it back on the road you have to pay for the 3 years it was off the road(750) plus a up to date registration of 250? totaling 1000

If thats how it is, that is STUPID

you dont have to leave your couch to do it except to hit a mailbox.we dont go state to state looking for people.we have friends in the non title states around us and mail the paperwork back and forth.

couple owners that didnt do paper work?the dmv doesnt need to know that.

yeah but with laws as retarded as this they probably wouldnt let us take the parts without paying some rediculous fee cuz the vehicle wasnt registered for the last 5 years :rotflmao:rotflmao

Brad,

If you aren't going to use the vehicle on the road you can pay a reduced fee for NON-OPERATION. But you need to do so BEFORE the current reg expires. If you do nothing the state assumes the vehicle was operated on the road, plus there are penalties for late reg. And if the previous title holder let reg lapse, you are now holding the bag.

I don't like it either, I'm paying NON-OP registration for a parts car (because it may be resurrected in the future).

Regards,

you have it half correct. it's $250/yr plus 160% of renewal cost penalty.
i learned that years ago. I bought a F450 that was two years out and the reg and penalties was $2500. got the receipt to show for it.-cuss-cuss-cuss-cuss

thats like excise tax here.you get taxed on the value of the vehicle for as long as you hold the plates wether theyre current or not and if you still own the vehicle or not.but to beat that you just return the plates if youre not using them.
