Has anyone heard of a CTS turbo kit for 6.9/7.3? It was on my 7.3 when I got it. It has a non-wastegated Schwitzer turbo and a 3" downpipe on it.

Here is a comparison to a stock factory turbo on the left

Does anyone have any info on this turbo? It is non-wastegated.

Thanks in advance.

Can't be like a factory turbo, cause a factory turbo is wastegated. It might fit on the same flange as a factory turbo however. Some members have run CTS stuff. Never heard anything too bad about them, woke up the IDI like any other turbo from what I can recall of others experiences. I have none of my own to add. I'm pretty sure they are no longer being produced so I guess the big question is can you get common parts like bearings, seals and compresser wheels. If you don't break cast iron parts or if you're skilled enough to fab your own replacements the lack of factory support becomes irrelevant and you can run these things until you lose interest or they're banned like most everything else on an IDI. If common wear items aren' available then they'd be a bad choice. Have you replaced yours in favor of a factory turbo? Any performance comparisons yet?

I was just talking about if the smog nazis get their wish and ban all old vehicles especially diesels, otherwise we're in good shape as long as we can get wear parts. The cast iron parts are the only "special" parts on a turbo kit as far as I know (not an expert) and you can't even get them on more popular kits like ATS (maybe you can on Banks or Hypermax).

Hi,

Yes I have heard of the turbo - I have one installed on my 1986 F250. I had mine installed around 1993. As a matter of fact, I drove to Kamloops to get the turbo installed. If I recall correctly, Cariboo Place is just below the Aberdeen shopping centre, in the industrial area. I towed a 27ft trailer from Abbotsford to Kamloops and stayed in it overnight, while the truck was being worked on. I used approximately 1/3 less fuel going back to Abbotsford and there was virtuall no smoke at all - A HUGE IMPROVEMENT. Also, now when driving at high altitude, there are no smoke trails being laid down because of lack of oxygen. I think I paid $2300 for the complete installation including taxes etc.

I heard that the original owner died and that the company was sold - is all I know.

The turbo is as you say, a non waste gated turbo. Mine has been trouble free except the turbo oil drain back to the engine came off twice and made a mess putting oil around the engine and transmission. There is a 5/8" ID rubber hose that directs the oil back down to a nipple in the intake manifold gasket. These are secured (on my engine) with ordinary hose clamps. When the hose gets soft from the oil , it slips off the nipple and leaks everywhere - easily washed out though.

If you like I could take some photo's for you if it would be any help - at least where it sits on the engine etc.

The turbo performs well enough for me needs and I have had no problems to date. The other big improvement you could make is install and air cooler as the air gets pretty warm when compressed.

Old post! But......I have one to, installed on an 85 F250. From Kamloops. Works well. Produces about 10psi of boost. The truck came into my possession due to suspected bad head gaskets tho so I haven't run it much. The turbo is being "stored" on that truck till I do something with it.
