How Much Diesel Kleen?

I'm interested in what everyone else's does of DK is in their tanks? I bought some today and doubled up on the treatment and noticed a difference damn near immediately.(first time ever) But, is there such a thing as too much when it comes to this stuff?

Pour at will if it were me i would fill the tank full if i could afford too at the rate fuel is climbing it might get cheaper than diesel

It really does make a quick difference. Whenever my metering valve starts sticking and I get stalling, i pour some in and problem gone. If you pour alot in with the engine running and a low amount of fuel in the tank you can hear the engine noise change.

As long as you aren't running a 100% mix. The stuff is more expensive than diesel anyway lol

I've ran DK from the first time I heard about it on FTE years ago. It seemed to clear up the smoke problem I had after I made two trips to town (an hour round trip). Of course back then I was using exact measurements with a measuring cup lol. Now I just pour a little in every other fill up. Needless to say, my smoke problem hasn't ever returned.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, ANYTHING is better than running straight ULSD with our engines. Ours are designed around fuel standards 20 years old.

Diesel at the pump can be found in two CN ranges: 40-46 for regular diesel, and 45-50 for premium. The minimum CN at the pump is supposed to be 45. The legal minimum cetane rating for #1 and #2 diesel is 40. Most diesel fuel leaves the refinery with a CN of around 42. The CN rating depends on the crude oil the fuel was refined from. It varies so much from tanker to tanker that a consistent CN rating is almost impossible. Distilling diesel is a crude process compared with making gasoline. Gasoline is more of a manufactured product with tighter standards so the octane rating is very consistent. But, the CN rating at the diesel pump can be anywhere from 42-46. That’s why there is almost never a sticker on a diesel fuel pump for CN.

Just mixing with the diesel in your tank should not be much of a concern, your ratio can vary widely.

I experimented with it on the plastic cup of the fuel pickup, inside the fuel tank.

100% dieselKleen started melting the plastic, but 50% was safe.

I was told to double or sometimes triple the "suggested amount" depending on temps. But i have started to get away from diesel kleen products other than the 911. I have been using Howe's here lately since it has been around $9 to $10 for the big bottle at town pump here. It seems to work out ok for the most part. Had another drop in temps the other day it was right around -34 below and -53 below with the windchill at 2am yesterday. Yeah even plugged in and using #1 diesel with additive it still had a hard time running and died a few times while driving. But then again i dont think many things want to run at those temps. hint as to why eskimos still use dog sleds and not dodge rams.

I have been running howes also. seems to add a little more lubricity then Diesel Kleen. maybe its just my imagination... Until the other day I was at our local John Deere Implement and they had gallon jugs of their diesel addive for sale for $9 per gallon. It is regularly about $30 per gallon. I bought 3 gallons. They accidentally ordered way to much and are selling it off. Seems like a good product. It is made by Standadyne.... so thats good, and it says right on it adds lubricity to ulsd fuel. acts as an anti-gell too. I will run this every tank.

Howes it is for me. Stopped for fuel in Missouri, they had the Howes on sale $24 a case of 4 bottles. It upped the fuel mileage by 2 miles per gallon on a 3500 mile round trip.

I have been running a qt of 2 stroke oil per tank....seems to help with lubrication......

I strictly believe in howes. I run diesel kleen last year and noticed it will not go near as far as howes does.

Howes will NOT gel up. I don't care HOW cold it is, I have never seen it gel up or show any signs of gelling up!

I run an addative year round. I double up the dose in the winter, but I don't measure the amount I put in. Just a little splash and start pumping the fuel in.

ANYTHING is good for lubrication, 2 stroke oil, ATF, motor oil.....however, anti gel properties are what you want in the winter!!!

That's what I'm using is Howe's. Come summer time, I'm going to try to get some B100 to mix in as it's supposed to be the best for lubricity according to that one thread on here that tested all the different kinds of additives. Obviously it sucks for winter time unless you add B100 and an anti-gel, but in the summer it should be good. Haven't tried the 2-stroke oil though. Probably works good though.
