While I'm working on the '86 crew cab project , I've noticed the body/cab mount bushings have seen better days. They are squished and cracked.

I'm wanting to go with a polyurethane set. Anyone have any experience with them?

I've been looking at Energy Suspension's stuff, but I can't seem to find a crew cab specific kit. If I were at Dad's shop, I'd just crawl under the truck and look, but I'm 30 miles from there.:D Anyone recall if the crew cab has more body mount bushing under the cab than a standard cab? The energy suspension kit comes with 12 bushings. I assumed the crew cabs had 14 bushings?

Thanks in advance.....

Heath, I've got them on Goldie. Theyre hard and going over rough terrain the cab really creaks. On the 87-91 bodystyle there's only 4 mounts and IIRC the regular cab kit worked for the crew cab.;Sweet
Now on my 86 there's actually a set of mounts mid way underneath but not sure if they're put in afterwards.:dunno

I have a set sitting on the seat right now, old bushings cut out, waiting to make the hardware. I'm using Poly as well. There are 6 mounts on my standard cab 1987, rear of the cab, under the floor boards then the radiator support. I'm putting a 2" lift on mine as well, it's also on the seat...waiting on parts and weather to get it done!

Oh, should have mentioned, use the grease that is recommended for them as well (I can point you to it if you can't find it) as it greatly reduces the amount of noise. I put leaf spring bushings in without it once, never again! My truck has poly leaf spring/trackbar bushings and they are greased and make zero noise. They've seen some pretty rough country too!

Heath. Crewcabs use the same bushing as a reg cab. Diesel dog is correct, the crewcab ONLY uses 4 bushings.

I have a set for my crewcab, once the weather breaks , they are going in

Thanks Ron, Scott, and Brad. I'll order a kit today.

That was an issue I've been wondering about. How hard will it be to get the old mounts out and the new ones in. I was hoping that I could just un bolt the cab and bed and slip the old ones out and the new ones in without much fuss. How big of a PITA is it going to be?

When I did my body-lift, I just un-bolted one entire side at a time and raised the cab with a short piece of 6x6 across the floor-jack pad.

If you are only doing the bushings, I would loosen everything on one side, but only completely remove one bushing at a time.

The only tough part is that hateful factory radiator-support bolt business and that can be eliminated with a plain old bolt once it is out.

Plenty of knocker-loose is your friend.

Anti-sieze everything when you are going back together. ;Sweet

Also, unless you have something different, there should be NO BUSHINGS under the bed. :)

The bushings are held in place by a washer and sleeve system that slips inside each other. I'd say this will be the determining factor of how hard it is. There was no way my sleeves were going to slide apart, so I cut them out. The lift kit also uses 1/2 inch bolts and stock is 7/16 so I'd have to have done some work anyway. At this point, I'm doing my own sleeve/washer system. Hopefully it will hold up a little better as it will be heavier stock than basically sheet metal sleeves, then again, hopefully, I'll never have to do them again on this truck! lol

Here is a look at what the washers and such look like.

I better start the PB Blaster soak now. The kit is supposed to be on my door step Monday.

If anyone really cares all 4 body bolts are under the carpet. the front ones are under an inspection plate right where your feet go. the 2 back ones are under the rear seat next to the back wall. I did a body lift for someone and it was a PITA to get the radiator support ones loose. Also had to drill out the holes to 1/2" . Ended up using the good ol cut off wheel :D The drivers side rear bushing is a tight fit also to get to. If i remember right its tucked in with the fuel tank strap and support. hope that helps

With the care that Dave and Rob took with that truck, I'd wager doc a cold one that the bushing bolts come out without much fuss.

You dont need to remove the seat in a crwcab or reg cab, just slide the seat forward
