Some do use it as an exhaust brake and you would have to do a search for the mod. Even with the butterfly valve completely open, it is still a 11% restriction in the exhaust. It would also have to create a lot of turbulence in the exhaust, since the exhaust gasses are spinning, when they exit the turbo. That valve would have to stop that spinning immediately and create a lot of drag on the turbo's exhaust wheel.

OK....great info....thanks. I am gonna go look now n see what kinda mess I am gonna get into to take it out. I have also been thinkin about gettin the 3" DP also. Would it make 25 hp difference by doin both of them? How bout strait pipin the exhaust?

I don't know if it was a 25hp change, but I definitely noticed the power increase in my butt-o-meter!

Any restrictions you can remove from the exhaust, will help your engine breathe MUCH easier.

the ebpv is controlled by oil. there is a solenoid of some sort the cotrols the oil to move the butterfly valve. all of this is located in the turbo pedistal. you will see turbo pedistals for ebpv or non ebpv models. you can rig up an exhaust brake using the ebpv, there are lots of write ups on it. i would do this but i donrt like the way it is activated. they use brake pedal voltage to actuate the valve. so the exhaust brake only comes on when you touch the brakes.... i would rather have it so that it comes on when you let off the go pedal, just like a jake brake. i am not smart enough to figure out how to actuate the valve with only idle tps voltage....

Well thats the dumbest idea I have ever heard of. Isnt engine braking supposed to save brakes???? Why would anyone rig it up so that it would only come on with the brake switch activated? It would be just as simple to rig up a switch on yer fuel pedal to activate it just the same. Wit hthe info here tho, I dont think it is wise. Its to close to the turbo and would restrict exhaust becuase of the swirling exhaust would have to pass over a flat plate right away...thus restricting flow. Be a better idea to install an exhaust brake maybe at the bottom of the downpipe??

I heard the jake brake mod can hurt yer valves? Plus works better with a manual trans truck than an auto truck.

it would work better with a stick than with an an auto. yes it could hurt the valves if activated at high rpms... maybe stiffer valve springs would help with the valve float that would happen, seems to be an area for upgrade any way. but others here have had no problems with theirs. it isnt a complete stupid idea to have them come on with the brakes, because you wouldnt have to press on them as hard, but i would still rather do it a different way.

Using the EBPV for assisted braking will work---above 3k rpm with a bolt action-- so you will need to learn a new downshift curve...... besides, it is really only felt when loaded.

Meethinks Towkitty fooled around with this idea at one time as well.....

The is a way to rig a couple relays and dash switch in tune with the IVS [idle validation switch] so that when you let off the go pedal, it will activate before using the brake switch to engage.

Slushboxes need a bit more relay/wiring work to keep the TC locked when you lift your foot off the go pedal.

The EBPV piston plunger is a known headache for oil leaks, and as the main reason for disconnect---the random activation.

Tried it ---didn't like it so out it went :D

But not saying it may not benefit others
