The first Pic is of a 2 1/2 Hp Monarch 1915 0r so ( I restored it when I was 13 ,the second 2 are of my 1921 quick mix cement mixer (I have mixed a lot of cement with it and enjoyed every minute of it)and its engine.I slod over 25 peices when I moved from MA and a few more when I got ill here,I have the parts to make a forest fire pump (Fitzhenery Guptil 1930's) like in the 4th pic.If I finish it it will be my last toy. And a fairbanks morse ag pump(not Pictured) here & some other small odds & ends left here. I think my restoring days are just about over but I haven't given up yet.I hate all this modern tech stuf althoughh I have worked with in in industrial situations.What I know is self taught.
Thats my story -I'm stickin to it.
PS these have served well getting youngsters off the streets doing constructive things.Two in particular 1 has his own business servising aerial bucket trucks,another runs a high Tech auto repair business in MA and has a funny car for a hobby.A couple
went on to other things and I am proud of all of them. Its a great family hobby. i hope to pass some interest and stuff on to my grandchildren.

I obviously got some reading to do because the stupid thing is I have no idea what the IP is even.. I replaced my fuel filter and dropped some sea foam in it and noticed a difference driving it already.. I just have not towed with it yet I am going to check my timing with just a regualr gun right?? As for the pyro meter do I have to weld a nut on or drill the manifold for the threads? I have found 0 how too articles so far..

IP = injection pump. Do you mean you haven't found how tos on the subject of the pyrometer, or in general? There's a whole tech section at the top of this forum that is a must read for anyone new to these beasts. Stickies 5-7 at the top of this forum.

If you use a regular timing light you need an adapter such as one made by Ferret Instruments, as there are no ignition wires to key off in a diesel.

Did you do this before or after Carlisle? I wouldn't even think of pulling without a driveshaft hoop.

did this this past weekend. only issue with loops, when it does break, it cant drop, so it will just contact yolk to yolk. the yolk on my rear wasnt hurt, just the yolk on shaft. had spare slip joint at house, fixed next day, will be back next year.

EDIT: just realized your truck is an 86, u-bolt's on the rear yoke. What brand joint do you use?

brute force fron advanced. normally the joints are good, just breaks the yolk. both times i have broke them it was always the short end of the shaft, breaking right threw the casting around the caps.

truck is an 86 yea. axles are 90, trans is 78, xfercase is 89. lol

Well... I'd like to say if they weren't Chinese.... but then, I can't think of a joint that isn't Chinese anymore. Even Motorcraft ones are.

with all the hell i put them threw(sled pulls, rocks, mud, sand, ect) i replace them almost twice a year even if they dont break. just sorta cheap insurance. also in that vid, i had greased up all my joints before the pull. the one at the rear that blew apart was completly burnt up, almost no grease in it after the pull. it got hot! lol

best non high performance joint IMO is spicer and meritor (rockwell). I have toasted a bunch of brute force and the like too many times.

so with it being a 90 axle... it has straps on the rear? Did the straps let go? That generally happens before a joint.
