Any idea which bolts these were Sean? The reason I got the idea was that was allegedly one of the fixes for the head gasket problems on those old 5.7 GM diesels.

I've been saying it for a long time, there is a CAT bolt out there that we used on my grandpas 6.9 (kept blowing head gaskets). My dad went in there one day and just bought enough for one side and we never had another issue with that head leaking. Put over 450,000 miles on it with those bolts in there.
I hate using studs on heads because it makes it such a PITA to put on and take off the head.

do you rember what bolts they are because that would be pretty useful around here for the guys who wouldnt have time to pull there engines

I'm gonna have to look into it. Its been so long its possible they dont make them anymore. I hope they do, because thats what I wanted to put in my brown trucks 6.9. I'll go back in the back yard tomorrow and look at which type bolt they are. Im thinking they are 6pt, but I may be wrong.

Just a thought, has anyone tried using a PSD head bolt, I have no idea if they are the same or even close, but I know PSD heads dont lift until 40+ PSI?

The psd bolts are a good idea but... Those motors run a lower compression ratio. We have 21 1/2 to 1 and they are around 17 or 18...

yes but the PSD runs 3-4 time the boost
Im not shure how to do the numbers but even at 17.1 x 40 psi boost has to be greater than 21.1 x 15:dunno

OK Im bringing this back from the dead again........Well I finished school for good and moved back home. We had to re-hone one cylinder as is rusted just a smidge. My dad pulled the heads today and got out the broken studs out. I picked up one more new set of fel-pro head gaskets and this weekend Im going to put the ARP studs in and put the heads back on. Then hopefully we can get the truck running FOR THE LAST TIME.

I think when you are able to drive your truck, all this work and time will finally pay off. Good luck man
