I got a recall notice in the mail yesterday, Its for the speed control deactivation switch. Apparently brake fluid is leaking out and causing fires.:eek: Has anyone else got this notice? Its kinda weird, there gonna replace a part on a 15 year old truck.:dunno Oh well, its on their dime, and maybe my cruise will work when they repace it. (just wish there was an autorized dealer less than 80 miles away)

It takes about 30 seconds to put in. no big deal. Basically the pressure sensor in the end of the master cylinder (or down in the proportioning valve in a few vehicles) has a full time hot lead into it. The switch is used to shut off the cruise in the event your brake light switch fails (redundant system). The full time hot lead can short if the sensor leaks internally, causing brake fluid to short in the connector and then in turn ignite. The recall is a fused harnass so as to keep the circuit from starting a fire if the sensor should leak. If your sensor is already leaking then they replace that too. I had one that had a leaking sensor that was seized and destroyed the threads, thereby getting that customer a master cylinder and brake bleed as well (took much longer than the 30 seconds mentioned above).

call and make an appointment at the local stealership and they will check your sensor and put the fused jumper harness in, all it costs you is time. An appointment will limit the amout of time you wait.

Just how are they going about finding all the owners of these old vehicles if they are not the original owners. Are they gleaning the state registration records or what? Curious since mine seems to fall within the effected year span but I haven't received anything.

Im not sure how theyre going about it, but I am definately not the origional owner of mine. The letter states that if you get the notice and you no longer own the truck, to please forward it to the previous owner.

I got mine yesterday. I'm the second owner, so they are checking state databases.
A friend of mine lost his van and garage because of this. If you don't have it done, Ford will not take responsibility for your damages. CYA.

What kind of envelope does it come in so I don't mistakenly pitch it along with the daily mounds of junk mail?

You won't miss the envelope: it's marked pretty clearly as a Ford Motor Company recall. I was pretty shocked when I opened mine as I thought it would be a recall on my 2007 Ford 500 company car.

The recall # is 09S09. You should be able to call your dealership and give them your vin# to see if you qualify? Doesnt really say you need to have letter present, but I could be wrong!
