Nope. Our BFG Mud Terrains on our granpdas truck didn't hardly throw rocks at all. The AT's will throw some gravel, but my MTR's are by far the king of boulder throwing.

Without overdrive, your motor will be at about 2700 rpms down the highway right? If I was you I would try to go a little bigger just to lower the engine speed on the highway. Idk, just an idea.

My tires seem to be alright with about 4,000 on them, just dealing with one of the managers at discount sucked cause I tore a huge chunk of tread off and he didn't want to give me a replacement.

I' don't know why your BFG's didn't last.:dunno I've got a pair on the back of my 87 F250 2wd truck( stock size 235/85/16 load range E ). They have over 50,000 miles on them and they are still around 70% tread. They've outlasted a couple of my trucks! LOL I've had these for 6 or 7 years and they have been on a 1 ton van and three different F250's.:D

I haul scrap metal so there has been plenty of heavy loads on them.;Sweet

If throwing rocks and paint chips are an issue I have a couple suggestions. Can you say fender flairs and mud flaps!:D They are an aggressive tire so they will kick up stuff.

When I get the cash my F-Super Duty is getting a whole set of them!:D

I buy mine from tirerack.com and then have a local shop mount them. It's saves some cash over paying the mark up at the tire dealers.

Depends on how fast I go down there LOL. I dont really think I can go any taller...if so, I cant wider. If there was like a 315 65 that might work LOL

General Grabber AT/2, I have them on my Toyota (will put them on my '86 when the Goodyear AT/S' wear out) and have done a lot with my 2WD shod in them, wear pretty good (been on for close to two years) as well and they're cheap...

I live on a gravel road. BFG's throw rocks like no tommorow. Since they are wider than the fenders, they fling it at the fenders, and all the paint chips show it...

Might I recommend rock guards like the '92-'97 F-Series had, they were great on my dad's PSD...

Maybe I will have a change of heart for the BFG's, but for right now I'm just going to weigh my options. I know down in the part of Texas I will be in, there wont be a ton of gravel roads.

Don't worry Justin, there are plenty of gravel roads down here to ruin your paint... Have you considered a 255/85/16E? you get the height of your 285's, but you can keep them under the fenders better. This is probably my next move for the drive axle on the 2wd F-250 and all around on the 4x4 F-350

I'm kinda liking the Pro comps...the warrenty is a kinda nice figure, decent looking tread, and cheaper than BFG's

I'll just take another vehicle then :rotflmao. There was some, where I drove around though I didnt see much in the way of gravel.

Most of the roads transition directly from asphalt to dirt, but still, the occasional country "rich man's" driveway will will be gravel :D

i have procomp exteme ATs on my diesel and they work really well. they are like a mild mud tire.

i also have procomp ATs on all our other 4x4s (except my 93, but that'll change) and they are terrific in the snow, dry and wet pavement. had em on my dads truck and g/fs truck before and got exceptional milage on my dads (45,000 miles before we repalced em, 35,000 on my gals truck but i had a little fun in that *ahem* burnouts).

i also like the general grabber AT/2s, for the price they are a good tire.

i had a bad experneice with the BFG ATs as well. i smoked a set in less than 15,000 miles of street and very mild off-road use. i will NEVER buy those overprice tires again.

I've got Maxxis Bighorns on the rear of my dually, they are a bit more of a MT tire but they hold out very well and they didn't cost much, very good traction.
If trying to keep price down, might want to look at the Kuhmo tires . They make a pretty decent AT tire that doesn't cost much. I'm running a set of their steer tires , work great. A bunch of farmers around here run the things and load the snot out of them without any problems. I used to run them on a semi and loved the things ( initially I badmouthed the tire man for putting korean tires on my rig , but I changed my tune when I noticed that I could take wet curves a whole lot faster than i could with Bridgstones on the thing ;Sweet.

We do have General AT2's on my brothers truck. I guess I forgot about that one. They are great tires. Awesome in the snow, and don't throw rocks at all that I can remember. Only problem was anyone who dealt in them wanted just as much for them as the BFG's.

I say Cooper ST in 255/85R16. As suggested it keeps the tires in the fender (less rocks) and you keep a descent RPM range compared to the 235/85's.

My .02

Its what I WILL be getting for my next set.....unless I am super cheap again and just get retreads!!!
