Question for Mel, hopefully he reads this.
I noticed last night taking it into town that it seemed like the pump is governed at about 2700-2800rpm is this how your builder sets them? I was thinking they were actually governed at 3200 but I could be wrong. I just noticed it takes off like an animal at 2000 but quickly hits the proverbial wall at a bit under 3.

Yes. We have them set up this way because fuel delivery by design actually drops off beyond that speed. It also allows us to keep the timing curve where we want it. You can have more RPM's, but you have to sacrifice power to do it. While Horsepower is related to speed, it is an imaginary number. Torque is the real value that we are aiming to improve.

That kind of limits us without overdrives though, do we want power or rpm's. 2700rpm's I guess is roughly 70-75mph...

Haha thanks for clearing that up for me Mel. I was kinda like... well maybe I'm just imagining it. But hey, thats okay. It'll keep me WAY down into the safe operating speeds of these engines. I'm notorious for running them all out against the governor when I'm towing something. This way that governor speed is much lower and much safer for the engine.

Hey another question though for ya Mel.
You said fuel delivery by design drops off significantly above 2700rpm, so why does my moms crew cab with the factory turbo pump smoke like a freight train when it tops 2800 through 3100? I would think that means the pump is actually picking up volume above that and gives too much fuel? Or am I putting to much thought into it?

my old 86 that i sold will roll black as coal all the way to 3800 but the pump was rebuilt by some pump shop in chattanooga, but who knows what they done to it, the truck did get up and move damn good for a n/a 6.9

There is a couple possibilities, but the most likely one is the factory timing curve. In order to run that much fuel without getting the EGT's to shoot up faster than they do, you have to retard the timing a little. Another possiblity is that your mom's factory turbo is air starved, either through an intake restriction at the filter, or the air temps are high enough that the oxygen content is going down too much.

I see what your saying, and what it looks like you've shaped the power delivery similiar to the stock pump, just more so. Can you shape the power curve so it doesn't lay down and pull to 3800 rpms? If a customer wants a power curve set a certain way, you can make the pump do it, right?

It's been pouring down raining all day today guys. Sorry I'll get a pic and hopefully a video for ya tomorrow. Been spending allot of time studying for a couple tests the last couple days too. I finished the truck up last night and then studied for about 5 hours. What can I say I like my 4.0 lol.

Just an FYI though, I didn't get the grill back on nor the lower valance. There's just no way it would fit. The bumper literally bolts up a papers thickness from the intercooler.

BTW, I retract my previous statement about the lack of smoke. lol I'm not really the smoking type but I figured a Moose Pump should pollute the air some. Well it does! I rolled some coal with it tonight, just for a second though since my pyro still isnt working. I could not believe my eyes, or the lack of road I couldn't see behind me! lol
