I've found a '90 D250 for sale that's looks like a good DD. Should be better on fuel, and quite a bit smaller than my crewcab or work van ;)

Its a 5-speed, thankfully :D Starts and runs great. Basically stock. Its just a very well used work truck. Rusty on the fender lips. Box is pretty beat up. Needs a balljoint or two.

Anything particular to look out for? What are they worth now?

2500.00-3000.00, and it goes up from there based on condition. Front ends go because of the weight of the engine. Depending on the transmission, 5th gear nut can work loose.
Suffer the same problems because of age front end wise as a IDI or PSD. Just give it a tune up (run the valves), and make sure the pump timing is right and off you go. It wouldn't hurt to run some Auto Rx through the motor. Stuff is awesome and it brings low compression cylinders back from the dead.

They do have the problem with the Killer Dowel Pin but it's not nearly as common as on the 2nd gens so I wouldn't worry about it to much. Really the only other thing is the exhaust manifolds have a tendency to lift the head off the block as they heat and cool causing a head gasket leak.

the Dodge trucks have had a chronic bump steer issue where the joint on the steering shaft wears out and a replacement from Dodge might last you 20k miles or so. If you don't mind the bump steer they don't really break off you just get a lot play in the steering wheel but you get used to it - or at least I did on both my Dodges over the years. It's more of an annoyance than anything.

Ball joints that is the other common thing but you already know about it (you listed it).

Different parts of the country pull different amounts for trucks. I would say (not seeing the truck or even seeing pictures) that you will be in the 2-3 grand ball park.

I don't know, I've seen early 1st gens here with some miles and accident damage or just used up work trucks in the $1-2K range. I wouldn't give a lot of money for it personally, especially being rusty.

A poor body gen1 cummins 4x4 that runs and drives good is a $1000 truck in my area if it has a 5 speed or overdrive auto and $500-$700 truck if it's a 727 version.

They're on craigslist regularly. If you aren't good at finding the good deals someone who is will get them first.
