Today at startup I saw a puff of smoke come up from under the hood. Killed motor thinking it was heater or starter but no.... I tried it again only to see the smoke comming from the main wire harness plug to the motor.. So... Is this a repair item Ford has as an upgrade or am I on my own for repairs.. Its burned the glow plug connections and the rest of the plug is ok. I may just repair it but if Ford sells a repair kit for this obvious mistake of engineering I will buy that???

I will check at work and see. I rerouted my gp wires out of that plug, for just that reason. I used to huge heavy gauge flat connectors with heat shrink over them. I can slice the heat shrink to remove it, but the heat shrink prevents them from separating without my knowing.

ford used a single 8 gauge battery cable from the terminal to the GPC on the 92 and up body.
I have a 4gauge on mime. cheaper and easy to find at any numbnut auto parts store.;Sweet

I had to do the same thing to my engine, the day I went to look at it and pull it out of the wrecked truck, the owner cranked it up and smoke was coming from that connector. When I put the engine in my truck I just bypassed that plug and put a heavy duty connector off to the side for the glow plug power supply.

All better now....:D I tried to find some 6 gauge multi strand wire but nope... Nutten... So I got 6 ft of 8 gauge speaker wire from a steryo shop. 4 gauge was god awfully large... Wired it directly from solenoid to controller. Now in my spare time I need to find a push pull disconnect so I don't have to remove it from the controller or the solenoid.... Thanks for the help. It was the real deal to wire it directly instead of two cables after a inline fuse... Another Ford better idea....

then just get you a 250 amp MEGA fuse---about $30 ;Sweet I did this along with #4 ga wire on my old IDI after a similiar incident when those yellow wires from the fender cannon plug went Tango Uniform ...also will notice less of a load on interior lights, gauge etc...when starting.

Where o where did you get that idea Geo?:rotflmao Thats one of the first mods I did to my 90 when I had it. I would use no less than 6ga (ideally 4) wire. Once I did mine up that way it would lite rite up in the cold.;Sweet

I did like Geo. I used a 225 AMP fuse, 4 gauge wire and I plan to do away with all those fusible links and that plug eventually. Mine works great and I see a LOT less voltage drop when the glow plugs cycle.

i not sure what you guys are talking about, pics????

It's the main engine harness, where it comes from the right fender well over the passenger valve cover and to the engine. There is a connector in this where the harness comes apart to remove the engine. One end of the plug will have 2 large wires on your truck and they like to melt the connector, these are the power wires for the glow plugs. I would go out in the truck and get mine to show you but I am sure you will know what I mean. It is a rectangle plug about 3/4" x 1/2" or something like that.

I thought that was Foxtrot Tango Uniform, has to do with letting the smoke out.
