Big Ed hit the Truck Pulls last night:

Cool run Darrin. With some different tires things may have been alittle different for you also. But still a great pull for your first time.

That truck was wild that sled must have been pretty light for him though...

I was surprised that ED didnt put out any Smoke

Cool pics and vids. I wanted to run at our local fair,but the rules stated your have to have 2, 3/8" cross bolts in the exhaust to catch any engine parts if you had a failure, I'm not cutting up my exhaust just to try it. Oh well. Have fun.

That was My thought as well, looks like it needs more fuel.

The track was so greasy, I don't think any tire would have hooked on that stuff. It looked like a dirt road in the winter after an ice storm at one point.

Beth was rooting you on! To those of you who haven't seen it in person, it is a very nice truck! As greasy as that was, I figured you had shifted into overdrive!

And that semi, WOW! I drove my neighbors in our county fair one year, had never pulled before and he talked me into it. I full pulled twice, then they stacked on the weight! He has an alcohol burning diesel tractor that he pulls all over with...it has a sound like nothing I've heard.

Scott that truck was unreal. until that night, I had never heard a diesel popping before.
My buddy Brian, who's one of the builders, said that when they fired that thing up in the shop, they were blowing out the insulation batting in the ceiling just at engine speeds over an idle!

Of course he wouldn't pop the hood for us there in the pits, but offered a looking over at his shop.

Oh and to keep this IDI related, Brians dad was thrilled to see an old 7.3 there and said it was about time, but got bummed when I told him it wasn't pulling.

Apparently he has some knowledge on building them up too and knows a crew in Ohio that's got a tweaked up IH IDI. Hmmmmmmm, gonna have to research that one.

My neighbor built a quansit hut style of building cause his tractor would work everything above it as well. He used to build some serious 6.9 and 7.3's and was part of the reason I bought mine. I asked him about mods and his response was to make serious power out of them, you have to drop the compression. We all know that to be the case and while I'd like to make more power (wouldn't everyone) I'm not willing to sacrafice easy starting, etc.

Ah, but no one has asked the important question.... Darrin, what was your pull, and where did you fall in the line up? At least you had no bouncing and didn't have to worry about breaking a U-joint or axle. Very cool that you did that. Jerry Miller pulled at the Buck a number of years ago, but his clutch was smoked before he started, and so it was just sort of embarrasing.

Mel, IIRC Darrin hit 191'. Don't quote me tho.

Since the Cummins was in the truck he was an auto DQ, but they still let him run exhibition.
10 trucks in the mod class and Eric Merchant was there with one of his trucks as well.

Did he say by how much? I took 20 thou off of my pistons and didn't notice any cold weather starting problems. I know of some one else that took 40 thou off and runs his truck in colder weather than me. Might be easier on a 6.9 though since the 7.3 doesn't aim as much fuel at the glow plugs.

Since it was an exibition run they didn't post me in the finish. But like Ron said 191 sounds right, Probablly about mid pack. The track conditions were the worst when I ran. After my run there was one more then they tore up the track and it quit rainning, so there was a lot more tracion for the Semi's.

,..but once the turbo is lit it clears up just how I like it. Since I didnt have any traction I never really stood on it till I was almost in second gear. By then the turbo was lit, the LPG was kicking in and it burns clean.

No doubt I could crank up the pump and get more smoke but that is not what I want to do with the truck. I like how it is set up for every day driving, and still have plenty of power.

No, but he didn't have them cut, he had pistons made, so I'm not sure there is a relavant number here. He had a setting for pin height versus piston top. He passed all that information along to the person he sold the truck to.

i'm takin my 250 to the wayne county fair Aug. 10th! we'll see what she does hooked to the sled. i'm ditching the 37"s tho i think they'll be a bit much on the drivetrain, i have a set of 1960's 7.50-16 All tractions i'm going to try out!!! if i don't tear off the lugs off it should be amusing.....

855 Cummins which consumes 10 gallons of fuel from startup to shutdown after a single pull.
Oh and takes 15 minutes to warm up!
