Yeah I'd take a cold 8 psi over a hot 12 anyday. W/O an intercooler anything over 13 is just wasted anyway as heat. Of course that boost loss means you can safely stuff more fuel and eventually more boost in there. You just need a hot pump like a Moose or maybe a DB4/DB2 hybrid to really crank things up. I'm really waiting to see somebody do something like that and really get all that can be had out of an IDI. Probably isn't going to be me anytime real soon.

Yup the loss of boost should not be considered a problem, it's actually the benefit. The whole idea is to make the air more dense and oxygen rich so you can burn more fuel. Would love to see some pics of your PSD turbo installation.

Errrr, you stole my idea Mel. lol
Nice to see what mine will look like when finished.

About using the cheapy IC, who cares. I mean seriously. I've used lots of cheap ebay stuff in many different applications and very rarely do I have problems with them. Unless you're independently wealthy I doubt anyone can refuse to save a buck wherever possible and thats exactly what I had in mind when I looked up that intercooler. Yea sure I'd like to spend my money on stuff made here in the US, like buying a new Hypermax IC kit, but if I did that I'd have to set aside several other aspects of my project that I otherwise would not have had to.

Very interesting. Difficult to see the turbo mounting and oil drain. Would love to see that one in person. ;Sweet

Mel,
Not that I'm ready to do this now, ( with the uncertain economy, and other, more pressing projects already started,), but could you post a materials' list?
The exact dimensions, and model of the IC and what pipies fited where would be a great start.
Or will Moose Valley Products (MVP) assemble the entire kit and DVD video of the installation for a package price?

Hey not a bad idea Michael. :sly

But I will try to assemble a list of parts. It will be a little difficult because dieseldogcatcher and I did some parts swapping so I'm not sure what his sources were and will have to consult him.

Here is the exact item I bought from ebay to start my project.

Once I took delivery of it, I realized that I would not be able to make this work with 3" pipe. By coincidence, Ron had taken delivery of a kit of some kind that contained identical pieces that were 2.5". This was the diameter I needed to get everything to fit. The Hypermax pipes are 2.25", so there is a transition boot needed betwen the Hypermax parts and the pipes I used. So Ron and I swapped all our pipes, boots, and clamps, and I ended up with basically just the intercooler from that kit. I then needed a variety of adapters and elbows that did not come with Ron's stuff, so I ordered them piece meal from siliconeintakes.com . Boy let me tell you, a lot of those parts were like $25 a pop! I don't know how much I have invested, but its got to be dang close to $700. Only about half of what a Hypermax kit is though, and I ended up with something that fits my truck. Something Hypermax couldn't offer thanks to the rare wide radiator. I had to cut back the ends of the Hypermax pipes so that they pointed in the direction I needed. That was painful, given the cost of those, I probably cut like $100 worth off. LOL The only parts I had to fabricate where the hold down bracket for the bottom of the IC, and the support strap for the Hypermax pipes (something I would have bought from them had I known about it). I would not have known what part was needed there if it were not for the pictures Chris posted in my intercooler pictures thread. I used all the piping that Ron sent me except for one or two pieces, and I ran out of streight sections and so I cut down some of the curved parts and used just the streight ends on them. Many of my connections lack a sealing lip, so I'm crossing my fingers that I don't blow a boot off.

I'm just a "good idea" kind of guy!

Thanks for kicking it back to the surface. It was fun to re-read. Yeah, I would love to have access to all those pictures we had up on Webshots. There was a lot of content there that I foolishly trusted to them, and did not keep backup copies of. Most of my tech articles were also irreparably damaged when they went belly up. Alas, most of those pics you would benefit from could not be re-created without disassembling, and needless to say, that's not gonna happen. But I plan to be at the rally next year, so if you come I'll have it there and you can look it over.

Thanks Mel, we're jamming to get on the road heading south for the winter right now. After we get back from a gig in the Bahamas in January, adding a intercooler is next on the list and as usual, I'm sure that I'll have many questions! Thanks for all that you do for this community :Thumbs Up
