i was over at my mechanic friends yesterday looking for some randome stuff. he has just put twin turbos on the cummins 4bt that he swapped into his jeep commanche. ive helped him machine up some parts to do the twins so ive got an interest in the project and how it runs. in talking to him and his brother-in-law he mentioned that he hasnt even posted anything about the twins on 4btswaps.com, which hes very active in. when i asked him why he said because everyone always seems to give a bunch of crap to anyone who tries to do anything different. basically everyones an expert. so he didnt want bunch of hassle and people saying that it wont work for this that or the other reason. on my way home i got to thinking that there isnt any of that attitude on here. ive watched and read posts on here for a year and a half before i ever posted. anytime someone comes up with an off-the-wall idea, instead of getting flamed to death, everyone on here throws in their $.02 on how to possibly make it work. i just gotta say i love that type of attitude!! you guys all rock and i hate that i cant make it to the rally to meet you and learn alot and have fun.

When I read a posting that says... "That wont work" and then give no reason to back it up I ask why??? Information is power. The more of it you have the better you can make a dicission on something. Why can't we make 250 rwhp??? Why can't we run at 15 lbs of boost with hard top pistons, studs and an intercooler??? These motors are differant from most gas motors in that they are built for base loading. Thats rev them up close to redline and leave them there. They will run that way till they run out of fuel, coolant or oil. Thats the best kind of engineered motor. Some run bouncing off the govenor all day long and hurt nothing. I personally don't greet the redline. Well... Maybe once. I just don't feel I need to. The lessons learned come from experiance. Some favorable... Some not so favorable. I'm free with what works and doesn't work. I will tell you why it didn't work too. No sence you making scrap metal like I did. We are lucky. These motors have everything but the block available in the aftermarket sector. The offshore heads are better because they are thinker in all the correct places. I don't know all of them but I do know the area between the valves is thicker and so is the base. This is a site where we are concerned about how you spend the hard earned money in the pockets. Why go to the stealership just to have them charge you $80.00 to tell you "you got a problem"... Didn't I know this before I came in here??? I really haven't seen advise cost anyone anything here yet. We also have a Hall of Shame so nobody gets taken too.. It some good reading too.

For some reason the group on OB is very different than almost all other forums. I think it might be becasue the flamethrower types are not very well received here. We all stick up for each other wether we know each other or not. There is a good core group of individuals here (the very active people) and we all actually read and contribute. Thats why I will never leave here;Sweet

The absolute first forum site that I ever saw/read/joined was that "drama" group.

So long as I just read and was not a member, I sifted through all the crap and got some good information.

Then, I made the mistake of joining and asking a few questions.

Some poor guy (probably a member here) would try to actually help me, and fifteen with "administrator" or "moderator" titles would start throwing flames and degrading anything constructive anyone would post.

Guys with brand-new trucks would constantly patrol the IDI section and shoot down everyone, always replying in the IDI threads by flaming anyone that posted anything constructive.

I haven't even looked around over at that site in years.

I can't remember who, but some kind soul invited me over here and I have been here ever since.;Sweet

I started "over there" on the std site. I did enjoy it for what could be done but... One day I got an Email saying just this... "Care to test the waters over here".... So I did... I was able to compare the differant sites. I stayed on both till about a year ago. Someone just really got under my skin which is pretty thin anyways... So I'm here and very happy with what I can do here. I don't feel like I know all but what I know I really know. I share it freely too. Finally I suspect you all want to know who invited me over here... It was Towcat... I'm eternally greatful he felt I was worthy of all of you. I'll try not to let anyone down....

I dont post often, but i do read the new posts almost daily. I have also noticed that people around here are more helpful. I'm not sure if its possible that there are older people (no offence of course ;) ) or maybe they just seem that way since there is no drama.
I am on a few other sites that are sport compact related (I bought an IDI to tow with and modify slightly...) and i assume (of course it is only an assumption) that those would be younger crowds.
Either way- thanks to all who have helped a new comer with info, wether you know it or not, i am very thankful for it.

One of the best diesel sites period. I actually found out about this one after reading about icanfixitall in DPM. Worth the trip over, folks want to see owners/enthusiasts make good quality decisions about all things diesel. I found out about Shade Tree Conversions over here and hope to have my first couple of trucks done soon. Lord knows we need a break from the high fuel costs.

Even though I crossed over to the darkside 3 years ago, and view other diesel sites, this one is still my home page. Like it or not you guys are stuck with me. The Force is strong at OB.

As the young fellar's say. Sure is a  site.

Damn, to be 19 again and do this diesel stuff. Yeah, I was on the other site for a couple of years when I bought my 90 IDI, got lot's of conflicting info from some, then if you questioned it, lot's of flaming back.

Think it was "ican" who mentioned OB, (Thank You) been here ever since. Sure hope I get the "92" done in time for the rally, sure would like to meet you guy's. This site make's a guy feel right at home.

Oh yeah, my handicap placard ran out this month :D
