Well, today I inspected a 7.3l Powerstroke Excursion that I'm considering purchasing. Everything pretty much checks out OK, 'cept the locking hubs which is a known quantity.

The issue is that it has a SVO install on it that is 95% OK, doesn't reach high enough temps - 150F isn't high enough in my book - I'll just add a 36 plate FPHE and should be OK. The biggest issue is that it uses 4 - thats right 4 inline filters for WVO - sounds good right? Well. They're all 19 microns. The stock fuel filter is 9 microns.

Granted the vehicle only has 5k on grease so far and seems to perform fine, I'm worried about the injectors, and from what I understand the injectors are very expensive on Strokes. Whaddaya all think?

Sounds like a very poorly designed system. For one, any conversion on a PSD should take advantage of the fact that the fuel rails are cast in the head, and are the worlds greatest heat exchanger. What has been to speed purge times, due to the deadheaded stock system? That would concern me as well. I don't think 5k with 19 micron filters is a huge issue.

I was using an IR thermo on the hydraforce valve outlet and the line leading to the injector rails. average 150-160F I was unable to actually find the injectors themselves to measure them. If the rails run inside the heads maybe then the fuel got additional heat before hitting the injectors, how much is a guess. As far as speeding the purges, it would seem to purge in about a minute, as there is no fuel temp sensor or sight glass I had to rely on listening to the engine change it's sound ever so slightly. I would replace the wvo side FF, replace some of the fuel line itself, and add a controlled loop third 3 way.
