im thinking about it this way vegas, the new pump that your getting from this local reliable shop is so good. i wonder how many pumps has been returned back to them that you yourself dont know about and that just puts you in the same unlucky spot as the returnee of a bad pump. and in hammerdowns position it doesnt sound like pensacola is the one thats turning out bad pumps it sounds like mwfi is the ones turning out bad pumps. i myself bought 8 new injectors from pensacola and i am experiencing the same issues, do i think its pensacolas fault for the way my truck is running, NO. simply because it was running fine when i first put them in and didnt start acting up until two days latter. i would have to say in the prosses of installing them trash is the culprit. i just dont see trying to give someone a bad name because you received a unlucky pump, if thats the case than every fuel injection company is guilty in some form or fashion. thats just my .02cents.

I have no intention on giving anyone a bad name, if this new pump has an issue, I can drive it back instead of shipping it and talk face to face to the person that builds them. Just makes me feel better.

Just a comment...I too had a "good running" engine for the first few days then it all went to hell fast!
I too thought maybe I got dirt into the system so I took more of my time and pulled all 8-"new" BB's and personally tested them myself. No dirt, all pop tested at a good number. I then even pulled my valve covers thinking maybe a lifter was going flat or maybe a valve was lose in a guide...everything was clean a perfect.
I've exhausted myself trying to figure out
1)why my once great running 7.3 now vibrates
2)misses
3)noises I NEVER had prior
4)poor fuel mileage.
My only conclusion and everything points to...a poor rebuilt IP > I WANT MY MONEY BACK!

A couple of points:
1) Vegas39 isn't by himself,Hammerdown has gotten at least 2 and maybe 3 substandard pumps from Pensacola Diesel
2) Dealing local is usually best for the very reason he mentioned unless there is some compelling reason to buy online(cheap or a special product)
3) Everybody builds a bad rotary pump here and there...it's not easy, if it were we're all marginally handy guys and we'd all do it in our garages. The test of a company's metal is if they will stand behind their work, however repeated bad pumps often points to a defect in parts or craftsmanship.
4) I call BS on the "wrong pump" argument, a turbo pump will be just fine for a turbo 6.9, however a core pump is just that, who knows what spec they built it to, whoever built it. Also a turbo pump should be matched with G code injectors if it were indeed turbo spec.
5) I don't blame you for what you're doing Vegas39 I think you are probably doing the right thing for yourself and your business. I learned this lesson the hard way also, I've told that story here as well, and I probably bored people with it. My latest rebuild was almost a DPS pump but then I remembered how hard it was dealing with an out of town supplier when I had problems, and with my own experiences with Ken I wasn't sure he would ship it in a timely manner. I couldn't go moose cause I didn't have 700 bucks and I had no core to send Mel. Bottom line, my ATS turbo 6.9 got a 7.3 spec DB2 pump built by a local shop. It's still in there after 17 months it seems fine. Running on B100 biodiesel most of the time.

not trying to p--- anybody off, just stating that any injection shop can send a bad pump. i do believe that if you buy a pump from someone they need to stand behind what they sell. in hammerdowns case from what i can tell is the first pump was dirty so he sent it back(understandable), the next 2 or 3 pumps that he had recieved, was in a manner of pensacola trying to satisfy a customer, by locating a pump from a different vendor. my point is i dont think pensacola is the bad vendor, its the vendor that pensacola had to substitute with that sent the bad pump(mwfi).

Well, pump has been in for a couple days, all seems o.k. I took it down yesterday and the shop set the timing for 95 bucks. I guess I'll see how it holds up.

You are right hammerdown, I'm not overly enthused, I'm burnt out and sick at all the money I spent on this thing and in the process of changing the pump, I screwed up the throttle cable.
The shake is gone and the truck runs decent but I dont think they set the timing as high as some guys here run theirs. I want to say he set it at 5 degrees but I was in a hurry to get to a job and didnt discuss it much with them. I am dissapointed at the lack of power I have compared to that smokin turbo pump I had on but people in this city, like the smog police wont tolerate that kind of smoke! So all in all the truck runs fine, I'm just not too in love with it at the moment, I'll get over it in a couple weeks.

******* that hood latch and the $$$ put out is sickening...I know.;Really
When I get my original IP back from Mel I get to do it all over again then, deal with Pensacola! :backoff
Take a breather for a few days then rotate that pump a dimes worth counter clockwise > see how it feels.

well that turbo pump could have been turned down to take care of the smoke as well as your current pump could be turned up for the same results, how is the smoke now? any difference in boost? it is possible you need to turn up the pump.

hey vegas i was wondering how much it was for them to test your injectors ive got a set of b's and would like to get them tested.;Sweet

Diesel specialists inc. will test them for 5 bucks a piece, they are in the lossee & craig rd area.
J&S wanted alot more to test the injectors, cant remember the price, they are down near trop & I15.

Yea, the old pump probably could have been turned down. I have almost no smoke right now and after my smog test I might turn it up a bit. Boost is alot slower, I got on the freeway this morning and ended up with the pedal on the floor to get up with traffic. Funny thing is, my egt's jumped up to 600, which is alot more than the smoker pump did, all I can think is that it was because I had to put my foot through the floor to get moving.

We'll see how things go, Im trying to find something newer in IDI form with a backseat so I can take the whole family along, so until then I may not do too much more to this truck.

Yea, I know what you mean. I may be on the lookout for a new hood release cable if this keeps up! I'm anxious to see how your truck turns out.

As a company you are responsible for anything you sell no matter who may have rebuilt it. You sell, it you stand behind it PERIOD.
If not you get posts like this and an eqally deserved bad name.
Just mho. I was thinking about buying injectors from these guys but not now.
I don't have a money tree in my backyard so can't afford any risk.
