PSD conversion

If you want 400 hp in a 7.3 PSD, you're going to need a big turbo, big injectors, big oil, big fuel system, good custom tune, and of course all the minor little things. Then you need a clutch if it is stick, or a built tranny if it is auto.
You'll easily reach $5,000+ doing this.

you dont need big oil,the 17* hpop will support 450HP with no problem.dont really need the big fuel either till you get around 450HP at the wheelsstage 2 injectors and a nice chip is enough.im still running my stock turbo.

Yea if you get hybrids I wouldnt worry about big oil at 400hp

my brother has a 99 f250 7.3 5speed TS performance 6 bank chip(on the 140hp setting most of the time), 5" exh, big tractor air filter on stock intake pipe and a switch set up with a reastat hooked into the fuel system and i would almost guarantee he is making if not 400 he is right there

the 99 was only rated at 235 hp so even if he is getting all 140 hp gain out of the chip thats still only 375 hp at the motor not the wheels so if you figure the standard 15% drive train loss your at 300-310 hp and the 95 he has is not even going to be that close with out injectors

i dissagree a 7.3 psd is very capable of making a reliable 400hp without spenting 1grand. you just have to keep an eye out for deals and do what you can tinkering first and foremost, much like our trucks. also there are guys making 900hp with the 7.3s and they hold togather for a while although i do agree if you are going for those kind of astronamical numbers a 5.9 is the way to go

I was thinkin 200cc hybrids, g38r turbo and sd fuel system. Thats somewhere between 400-450hp. I am thinking about 4k plus my PSD that i already have. O and good tunes for $500.. I was thinkin 12V but the DODGE crap i dont want any prt of. And besides The coolness factor of having a PSD w working A/C in a 86. And everything would be a direct bolt in unlike the one off pieces for a cummins

I'd say go for it with the psd swap. You have a complete donor. If you have the time and the talent (or just the time, the talent will come) then you should do it. Just post pics and keep us in the loop.

I dont have the time. Have a frame up resto on the 80 pullin truck goin on as we speak. And a vortech supercharger for the lightning , but want to do heads and roller cam when i do that and my 4dr still needs gears. Pluss i just spent 7k on my garage roof

if it was me and i had the money i would put it in the idi, im very sure an idi would hold up to 400hp if not more, but i guess im just all about proving thet idi's can make power, and what do you need 400hp for anyway?

look at the 95 in my signature.i did 367HP with stock turbo,intercooled,a single SD 17* HPOP with 2 high pressure oil leaks,3 exhaust codes causing it to defuel,bdp electric fuel system and stage 2 injectors with the plain wildman extreme program.i also had the 3 "down pipe to 4 inch into dual 5 inch stacks and DIY tymar type air fiter.

are you kidding me?im building about 400HP at the rear wheels with my psd.and it runs 15.07 in the 1/4.

but to the OP i have a 94 factory turbo idi that i will swap with you for the psd and all the wireing with it to put it in my truck.ill give you the IDI,ZF5,ats exhaust for the psd and everything i need to put it in my truck.

I thought you liked the IDI more than the PSD.

hell no!!dont get me wrong i do love my IDI.but would prefer a psd.i can say that in the 8 years that i have owned it it has been a very reliable truck.never gave me any engine problems exept the IP,injectors and return lines wich is normal.its been sitting about a year now.im gonna charge the batteries this week and i gaurantee she will fire right up when it stats getting fuel.it dont even have a block heater so it will be ice cold.my psd is a ***** to start in the cold though.but i need the power of the psd in my car carrier

Ah. That makes sense. I remember a previous post of yours about idi vs. psd reliability. But it does make sense that you would need the PSD power though.
