Yea I didn't realize how much they managed to increase production. Seems like the numbers for our IDI's must have been in the 170 a day or less range. Makes you wonder how they could go from making a couple hundred, to several hundreds and keep the quality going. Seems like it was never really the quality as much as it was the design that was the problem. It's true corporate irony if so. The engineers in Ft. Wayne probably get to keep their jobs, while those who slaved away to impliment their ideas are the ones who get punished.

That is because it is the mind which is truly prized. Strong backs and weak minds are expendable. If only my mind was sharper when my back was stronger.

It is truly sad that this might affect our supply of idi parts, but anyway this is the first time I've heard of the Scorpion motor. It sounds pretty neat. But anyway, does anybody know what is going on with the 4.4l diesel that was scheduled to go into the F150. I believe that it was supposed to have the compound setup like the 6.4, so I don't think Ford has given up on the compound setup. But anyway, I wonder if Ford and IH are still gonna team up on that still.

I think the 4.4 might be delayed because of the current economy, but i'm not sure. The Ecoboost gas engine will be the F150's mileage king for now. Heath, I highly doubt the production pickup will end up looking like that. Ford knows better. They just had to alter the current design a little bit to make the 6.7 fit. I'm sure they will either make it look more natural or redesign the super duty.

You don't think the delay is because of the troubles between ford and IH? I think that introducing a diesel engine into the 1/2 ton market would boost sales, so that would ledd me to believe that the economy isn't the reason. I just don't know. :dunno

There is no half-ton diesel debacle between Ford and IH anymore. They cleared that up 2 or 3 years ago with a $70 million severance payment from Ford.

The F150 4.4 is from what I have read a bigger version of the Land Rover 3.6, but, I too have read that it has been delayed due to the current economic situation.

I won't believe any MPG numbers until they are sold and being driven by average people. Anyone remember the F150 "hydraulic hybrid" that was supposed to get 60 MPG?

Complete VAPORWARE!!!!!

Still waiting for proof of the ecoboost. Don't belive every press release of a company like ford or IH.

Sometimes I wonder if car companies have a side bet going on who can out BS the other....

as a side not about the i6 vs v8. the reason ford and chevy went with a v8 platform is smoother operation and better torque curve. the v8's arent lumpy with a NARROW powerband like the i6. I dont personally like the cummins i6. we see them from time to time in the f650 and it sounds like a piece of farm equipment and shifts constantly to stay in a power range. the 6.0 (granted not a great motor) is much smoother and more user friendly in the SAME truck.

the scorpion is supposed to be decent, its a modified land rover design that they where working on coming out with when they folded. Im sure ford will find some ingenious way to botch it up, but after a few years they will get the kinks out and we may have another reasonably reliable motor (kinda like the 7.3 powerchoke).

the days of dead reliable idi's are gone. emissions and the technology taught engineers want a computer to do the thinking and an automatic tranny to keep things in check. electronics are excellent in a test lab, but the real world is ******* them and thats why our trucks cruise by the broke down ones on the side of the highway. most things can pass us when they are running, but our trucks will out live most all of them, and its sad to think that they arent built and what we have is all there is.

I agree. I drove a stock 12 valve cummins down to California and back and you could really tell there is a narrow power band. Its not like my truck were it pull good down low (the cummins does so better) but it feels good all the way up to the goverened rpm, the cummins not so much.

I post this only as information not to argue. The cummins does not rev up high stock but there is a spring (actually 2) for the 1st gen pump that will allow the engine to rev much higher and the engine will fuel all the way up to that rpm. I have it and believe Me it works.:peelout

I do agree on keeping the engine computer free but that is just a personal preference like I only like manual trannys and not automatic.

I do have faith in the new engine, not bc a know any better but bc I do believe ford will come out better of this mess.
