Well tonight I take my truck out to meet a buddy of mine for dinner and a beer. now then i left the house the new rear tank is empty and the front tank is at almost a 1/4 tank, Ive never let it get that low since i got the truck cause up untill a week ago it was the only working tank. so we eat and crap and i get back in my rig to get home to the gf. I start my truck and then after a minute of running to warm up it dies:mad: so i crank it and crank it and nothing. so after a few seconds of some yelling to the truck, (which to people coming out of the resturant must have been entertaining) I relize I remember reading all sorts of stuff on oilburners that the pickup has a habit of falling off in the tank. so i walk 400 feet up the road to a station that has diesel back and forth a few times with my gallon gas can got her started with a few crank cycles and off i went to fill her up.

Had i know read about the problem here i would have just cursed and called my friend to tow her home.

You can pull the front tank sender easily without removing the tank. It has a large ring and a hammer and screw driver will turn it loose. Thats about it. Then add some diesel rated fuel line to the end of the 3/8 line and you all set to draw down that last 1/4 of the tank...

yup and dont forget to notch the end of the tub so it cant suck down solid against the bottom of the tank.

Or, your sender is off, like mine! I see 1/4 tank and I get REAL worried! My pickup is fine, but the sending unit shows 1/4 tank when empty...I too found all this out the hard way! Rear tank will be all but dry as the gauge approaches empty, but the front tank is "off"!

you can also pull the bed if you want to avoid dropping the tanks. In my case it's the easier route if you have 4 friends around :)

I would like to take the bed off one day so i can por15 the rest of the frame but I have a bed box that runs down the driverside bed rail and its packed with crap and then i have the bed liner so to get the liner out to get to the bolts the box has to go just is such a pain i didnt bother. but when i was doing the rear thank i wished i could have

yea the hose pickup is going to happen soon. how many gallons is the front tank?

Front tank is 19.2 and rear is around 17.4...

Wait, I though the rear tank is 19 gallons too?

It all depends on just which tanks Ford decided to put in your truck.

When ran down to EMPTY, my steel front will take about twenty-gallon to fill it up in the neck; same for my plastic rear tank.

I have never ran out of fuel to the point that there was no drawable fuel left in the tanks; I have, however, been ran out of fuel on a number of occassions by faulty electric fuel-valves, clogged up strainer-screens, and such, when there was plenty of fuel in the tanks.
