Well the deal is kinda off. Its an auto and I've heard a bunch of people say it slips really, really badly. That would put me over on budget, so I'm going to let it pass I'm pretty sure.

You could always put a ZF5 in your red truck and put the T-19 in the extended-cab! especially if the extended-cab is going to strictly be a wheeler...

OTOH, as I alluded to in my previous post, I can foresee your parents blowing a gasket...

rebuilding a C-6 would be a good project for you if you have a autotech program at your school. They're amazingly easy to rebuild. you just have to be very clean and check your tolerances.

Yeah I could do that, but that would be pretty expensive

I dont think they would be to aweful mad...its cheap, and its not like I would need tags and insurance, I would just wheel it.

How are the valves different?

The rockers are different, but 7.3l rockers can be bolted onto a 6.9l without modification and will work properly (in fact, this is a recommended upgrade).

I've never sat a 6.9l and a 7.3l head side by side, but I'd be concerned about the combustion chamber area possibly being different enough that they wouldn't interchange properly even if the bolt holes were the same size. But, again, I'm not sure...anyone who's dealt with both have any input?

IMHO one way or another, because of the difference in bolt hole sizes, you can't interchange heads even if everything else was 100% identical...

There are two options to bolt the 7.3 head onto the 6.9 engine. I was thinking about doing it and did a little research. NAPA's machine shop said that they could drill out and retap my 6.9 block to accept the 7.3 head bolts, or ARP can make a custom set of studs that are 7/16" for the 6.9 block, and 1/2" for the 7.3 heads. The only problem with the second option is I think the studs would have a weak point where the size flared up to 1/2".

Yeah, those are to two basic options. Also, those custom studs would probably be really, really expensive.

Yeah they likely would be expensive. The studs for a regular 7.3 are expensive enough. What kind of front axle does this truck have? A D50 or a solid D60?

I really dont know what kind of axle it has, if its a Dana 60 I would jump on it in a heart beat , but I dont think it is.

I'm not sure what is bad... It would slip when first taking off (in first), but no troubles in second or third. Downshifted fine, and seemed to work fine other than on takeoff. I would want a new convertor (the one in it still has the manufacture date on it - 03/1985).
