Okay soooooo my truck is fixed........... How awesome is that? Right.... my buddy came and picked it up today brought it to his friends shop and they fixed it and I have it back already. I mean dayum, I had no idea they were doing that even till late this afternoon. Had to replace something and put new bolts in, the ring gear was okay. Apparently, it's not a posi rear end anymore. I reckon I don't really care about that, cause it works!!! I was ecstatic. literally.

They had to install a new differential, because it would have been ruined with that kind of damage in there.

Yeps, which would explain the new no-posi thing too - they had an open diff available, so that's what they put in, but hey, it works!

Not true. If the ring, pinion, and spiders were all good, the rear could be salvaged. However, I was not there so....

Im telling you, lest there was damage to that stuff, you could have pulled the carrier, installed a new exciter ring, reinstalled it and been good ta go. So, does the speedo work now?

Actually, went back and looked at the pix again. It COULD be fixed, but I think the price of pulling the ring, retapping it, and reinstalling it would probably be more than that rear end would be worth compared to the price of a new one. Now, if I were going to do it myself, I would fix it....but poor people have poor ways.

Boy, don't I know that! Mine are generally 2 wheel peels, 1 front, 1 rear! With a truck that is so heavy to begin with, it sure sucks!

Yea, all of our trucks besides for my brown truck and my dads project CC are open diffs. I'd like to eventually put a locker in my new D60 front axle but I've had people tell me its a bad idea for the icey snowey roads we have in the winter to run a locker in the front axle. Is this true???

Yeah, it is not good if you use 4X4 at any speed. You can run around with the hubs unlocked and all, but they pull really bad otherwise...think of a front wheel drive with the torque of our trucks, you turn right, it insists you go straight. I had a limited slip setup once, it was ok, but it still fought to straighten the wheels and wanted to slip a wheel when turning, etc. My D60 does that some now when I'm off road and in 4X4 trying to make a tight turn, but it's manageable, going into a slippery turn with any speed, well, it could be disasterous. An Air Locker would be cool up front, turn it on and off as you need it! ;Sweet

I wasn't there, either; but, I would have ran a bottoming TAP in each of the ring-gear holes, one at a time, inserting new bolts as I went.

The only reason I can see that they would have swapped carriers is if the clutch-pack exploded, which would explain the hole through the cover, which could as easily have been one of the bolts.

Do you have the old carrier ???

See...now I thought of that as well, but she said it was the exciter ring that cut a hole. Now, there would be a lot of metal in there from that, but it would be so fine that I think it would need a complete (including the tubes) flush. Man...some of Ford's ideas were stoopid.
