After about 3 tanks truck starts smoking I can controle smoke some with
unleaded for little while thin truck smokes almost all the time.So I have to
run out mix in tank fill with 100% diesel with some injection cleaner. Smoke starts cutting back thin its gone.I have not tried acetone yet. Right now
am trying to clean out truck tank stop smoke and try another mix.I think
the injectors are dirty causing this smoke and need time to clean out.
Thinking of alternating from wmo mix to 100% diesel every other tank
being 100% diesel. Will try acetone with next mix.

Up to 30% unleaded is fine for winter use. Done it more times than I can count. Running big trucks up in the great white north, we would regularly dump 5 gal of unleaded in each tank. Aside from helping with gelling, it also helped to offset the power loss from heavily treated winter fuel.
Done the same thing around here blending veg at 70/30 mid winter and been able to start single tank veg burners on the glow plugs no problems ( doesn't get very cold here but I have started down to 12 deg f that way)

I wouldn't want gas in the fuel while it's hot out though. I'd always make sure to burn that stuff out of the system before getting near warm climate, or at least get it thinned out.

If adding RUG was instant death to diesel engines, Mercedes wouldn't recommend a 5% addition of RUG to diesel fuel in the winter. The question is not whether it can work, but in what ratio it can work. No one here is seriously suggesting that you drive your truck up to the gas pump and fill your empty tank.

I was adding unleaded to reduce smoke with 50% wmo / trams fluid/ hydrolic fluid it does help. I am runing a water injection know which helps more but I will be adding up to 10% unleaded in the winter .

I wish someone had told my wife that. I have about 7 gallons of gas in my rear tank right now. She saw the green pump handle, drove up to it, grabbed the black pump and started pumping away. Luckily she noticed and then filled the front take with #2. Looks like I get to syphon it out now. :dunno

I use 10-15% in my wmo to thin it out a bit. The wmo has more than enough lubricity to offset the rug/old gas and it helps out with smoke at idle.

Yeah and I grabbed the wrong handle in Tikini just outside of White horse going to Alaska. Put 28 gals. RUG in a 38 gal. tank on my PSD, after 40 miles it banged snorted all the way to Carmac and back to Whitehorse 200 miles RT. Only thing I think that saved my engine is I mixed 2 gals. of ATF in it going back to Whitehorse.

You were a glutton for punishment. I would've been huffin gas outta the tank to make room for diesel.

its about a hundred degrees out around here these days and I've been running pretty much strait WMO. filtered to the gills and I don't have much of a smoke problem other than when I put my foot into it.

IP did just kinda crap out on my the other day tho so I'm going to pull the front clip and do some much needed work on this tired old man.

I was going to try the acetone as the info I've been reading suggests it increased millage a lot but I wasn't aware that it evaporates out of solution so fast. Kinda defeats the whole purpose. Bio-diesel is supposed to be about the best at increasing viscosity but I'm all for suggestions, gum something ( I need to reread the thread ) was suggested by someone.

I'm pulling the factory exhaust and replacing it with stans headers and 4' pipes, cold air intake through the hood and at least take a peek into those exhaust ports while I'm at it. soak and clean the injector nozzles and a few other things. I'm hoping to revive the ole man if I can.

Been reading through as many of the threads concerning blending fuels as I can find.

My take on Gas in a diesel is going to revolve around the preignition issues. If its only a percentage of the fuel then it would seem that although it might flare if you had it in just the right concentration you could kinda preheat the rest of the mix enough to get it to go off at just the right compression. But ya, only in some pretty cold conditions, and once the thing gets warmed up your going to be looking at a preignition scenario.

mixed or not mixed its still going to obey the gas laws and so its still going to act independently of the other molecules in the cylinder to enough of a degree that pre ignition is occurring, has to. no way around it at 20+/1

does anyone run pure bio-diesel in the winter ?
