I guess I'll be the loaner in the MD camp. There is no comparison in the hauling capabilities of a pickup vs a medium duty truck.

I assumed from your name you were a big time farmer hauling bales and other stuff around.

I have customers that are farmers, and the ones we've convinced to go to MD trucks and semi's haven't looked back. Those trucks are just built better for the abuse the guys put them through. The ones still using pickups always seem to be running the things ragged and the **** is always wore out. I'm not sure what the insurance difference is, but I imagine it can't be too outrageous or I'd hear about it.

But if you're not loading it full and hauling heavy, and you need the cab space of a crewcab, those f350's are still a plenty capable truck.

Since I will still have the IH, the once in a blue moon I have to tow 20k or more, I can use it for that. But for the most part, I won't be towing much. I don't plan on beating anything up at all, I just think The IH will be complete overkill. For the most part I will be towing pickups and tractors, probable 10k on the trailer at most.

Farmer or gnathv, where are you looking for insurance for medium vehicles? It has taken me three months to get an insurance policy from State Farm for my '91 plow truck, and that's only 11,000 GVWR.

Stay away from progressive. They will require it to be a commercial policy simply because you have a plow. It could sit in your garage all year and never leave. Doesn't matter, if the truck has a plow they say it's commercial. Dealt with that several years ago when they dropped me. I was not a happy camper, but I'm pretty good at holding grudges apparently....

I realize I have been going around in circles here, and I apologize for that, but I have been trying to find excuses to keep the truck, and I just can't. As much as I want to keep it, I hate to see it sit around, so I am forced to sell it. If anyone is interested, I would like to get $2500 for the truck. I will post it down in marketplace. It's a really tough decision for me, but this is the only practical way for me.

Don't worry about it. It's your truck and your decision. Sometimes you have to think about it for quite a while before you can make it.

I wouldn't beat yourself up over it. You know your needs, and this truck just doesn't fit them. I'm actually looking for something similar, but in crew cab form. I already have 2 single cab trucks, so I don't want a 3rd, otherwise I'd be all over yours.

I had a CC IH truck spotted last week, but the forest service owned it and gave a salvage/offroad only title for it:frustrate Made it useless IMO, which is why it only went for 1000 bucks.

I just saw a CC on marketplace for 2k with a dt466 and I forget what tranny it had. It was just a cab and chassis. I will see if I can get you a link.
