Winch is full and working and held on with more than one bolt now. What’s the best way to get the hood cowl off? @IDIBRONCO looks like the antenna is holding me up.

Although I don't have the same transmission as you(ZF here), I did try running non-synthetic fluid for a while and then switched to Amsoil synthetic and the difference was HUGE!

Can you shoot me a link for the oil or a picture so I know what I am looking for?

Just remember that the Zf5s run ATF. The four speed transmissions run gear lube (like 80w/90). If you go with a synthetic oil in your transmission, be sure to get a synthetic gear lube like you'd use in your differentials.

Never having changed this stuff out before, so wanting to verify, previously you said yes to 80/90 in everything. Is this not the case?

So the D44 and Sterling 12.5 get gear oil?

The bog warner 1345 gets gear oil as well?

Then the little T-19 gets 80/90?

HELP!

These also got ATF in them. Now I could be wrong on this, but the way I keep it straight is that if it's an aluminum housing, it gets ATF. If it's cast (like a NP 205 transfer case) Then it gets gear oil.

The transmission fluid and transfer case fluid are separate from each other. Even with an automatic transmission.

On a scale of 1 to ***** where would my parking brake rank? Hasn’t worked since I’ve owned the truck and I have never adjusted one of these.

Pedal doesn’t move much, the release is sticky, and there is a bolt missing in the mounting bracket.

I don’t see how I can adjust it any further in its current condition.

I’d ask my neighbor but he just melted his drums in his Cummins following a brake job so...

I think I am going to try pulling apart the stuff inside the truck and coating it in wd40. Not sure what will make the pedal move but the cables are pretty slack

Looks like you've got a couple problems. I'd pull the wheels off and look, either your brakes aren't adjusted properly, or the cables are disconnected or stretched. That spring is shot too.

It's possible someone put the wrong cables on there too, I hate fussing with parking brake cables!

Sounds like I’m in for a fun Tuesday.

@chillman88 just pulled my drums off to look. Cables are routed correctly but have too much slack. My shoes are probably a 1/16 or so away from the drum when I Put it in. Should they be tight?

The cables should be pretty snug if your pads are that close, even though your pads sound like they're pretty loose. That spring on the tensioner looks like someone didn't know what they were doing too, I've never seen one stretched that bad.

I'm going to guess someone tried replacing the cables before and didn't use the right ones. There's a reason I hate fixing them, because they're a pain to get right.

I tried a couple different brands on mine, I'd stay away from Raybestos for the cables. I like their pads and stuff, but the quality of their cable was... Crap. I'd go with Motorcraft if I ever had a do it again.
