I have a 93 NA 7.3 it runs nice it’s never given me trouble I was just wondering if there is anything out there that would let it get more air. All it has is the soup bowl. All the plastic intake that goes up front was gone when I bought it. Any ideas? I don’t want to turbo it due to my 94 7.3 idit I have.

There's only so much air that a N/A engine will suck in. You could try replacing the plastic intake pieces. My Bronco seemed to run a little bit better when I put the intake pieces back on it.

If I could figure out where to put it, I'd make up some sort of an air dam up front. And funnel that to the air filter.

That way, at least at speed, you'd be forcing more air in.

Obviously a turbo but I did read your post.

From what I've seen more air won't do you much good without more exhaust. Either a set of headers and duals or a better Y pipe and exhaust. Couple that with a hypermax cowl intake and that should net you a little more performance for an NA. Might not be enough gains to justify the work though.

I agree completely with Chris. There's just so much you can do to it without a turbo. It's definitely an application of the law of diminishing returns...

Why don't you just replace the missing parts? Problem solved. You're wanting more COLD air, not more air.

My RV can't get cold air due to the ATS 085 kit. They put a retaining ring to hold the air filter down, due to the ATS 085 air box lid not fitting in a van engine tunnel. The ring clips down just like an air box lid.

The best thing you can do to a NA engine is exhaust. A y pipe and 3" with a good flowing muffler works pretty good. My last NA truck had that for exhaust, and with the pump tuned for almost no smoke, it actually towed pretty good. Never towed more than about 7500-8000 with it, but even over passes it was more than acceptable.

Not sure how deep you want to get into it but the Typ4 torque cam from Russ was designed for the N/A engine. It’s pretty well reviewed by the guys here that have one. I’d say it’s likely more work than a turbo kit but less money. I’d say an exhaust, fuel system tune up via CDD, and a cam is about the best effort you can give it short of a turbo.

Either locate the plastic tubing to put it back stock, or get some dryer vent flex hose and route that to outside air. That would be the best and most economical thing to do.

IMO if you're going to go through the cost and trouble of headers and a cam, you might as well put a turbo on it.

Gains certainly can be had by doing headers and a cam, but you're still only going to be making less power at NA then you would with a turbo.

I live in the mountains of North Carolina. The truck can run 70 mph on flat no problem but once a slight incline comes in to play it backs down to 60mph and on a steep hill 50mph. I have the e4od and I’m thinking the fipl might need tweaked due to a good take off in 1st then 2nd and almost immediately into 3rd from 2nd. She will get me where I’m going just not as quick as everyone else. She’s a good truck no smoke at all and idles gorgeously.

I agree with trying to get your FIPL adjusted a little bit. Also, if there's no smoke at all, your fuel may need to be turned up a little bit. Those two may give you the results that you're wanting.
