Hey people, my #7 GP wire where it pushes onto the GB (about an inch or so back) must have a break in the wire (meter test shows an intermittent break when I move it around).

On that lead, I want to go back a few inches, splice-in with new wire...anyone know what gauge wire is ok to use so it doesn't mess with resistance? And I'm guessing it's not solid wire?

Also, I remember reading a 'butt connector end' can be used to push-on the GB, anyone know what size # butt connector is a snug-fit to the GP end?
Thanks for ant info.

For the 7.3 glowplugs it uses a bullet connector on the glowplugs. The wire gauge I would recommend for a harness repair for short runs i believe 14 gauge will work but the larger the wire the better.

Thanks for the info...can't say I've ever purchased or even knew about "bullet connectors"...but I'm hoping that's something Pep Boys or Auto Zone may carry in various sizes???

The $75 spent buying a complete new harness from Classic Diesel Designs would be well worth the money spent. A very professional quality product that is nicely done. No cutting and splicing of wires or trying to find ends that fit correctly

This is an example of a bullet connector. If you decide to go this route I recommend getting some 4mm silicone vacuum hose to use as a band to hold the connector onto the glowplug. When I built my own glowplug harness I used the connectors only first and they would wiggle loose over time. The hose chunks worked great for keeping the plug together

I can certainly appreciate your opinion and thoughts and 'if' I was in a better finical situation and was going to keep my truck on the road much longer I would indeed purchase the wiring harness.
HOWEVER...the reality is,
#1 the front core support is rotted-out and hanging together by a thread and it will not pass Pa state inspection next year...I can no longer keep throwing big money repairs at this truck...my original owner truck in my profile pic will be parked and sold.

#2 I'm scratching every penny together to pay $9,000 a month (completely out of pocket) for my 91 year old fathers skilled nursing facility....9K a month x 30 months (and growing)...I'm going bankrupt.:(:frustrate

Makes sense. Yes, any autoparts store should have female bullet connectors (the glow plug is a male bullet). I think 14ga size will work OK. Use a couple inches of 14ga wire and a butt splice if you need to stretch the wire after you cut the short out. It should let you limp along a while longer.
