I was able to work on my project truck today. The engine has not ran in over 12 years it turns over good but will not start. I ended up doing a compression test on all 8 cylinders.

Cylinder 1: 275 psi
Cylinder 2: 150 psi
Cylinder 3: 200 psi
Cylinder 4: 100 psi
Cylinder 5: 175 psi
Cylinder 6: 150 psi
Cylinder 7: 200 psi
Cylinder 8: 175 psi

I'm thinking the engine is getting pulled soon so i removed the fenders (due to road cancer) and the radiator support is also full of rust so it will be removed next time

Wow those numbers are terrible!

Did you try some Ether? It's possible that you just have stuck rings from it sitting. I'd fill it up with some penetrating oil and let it sit.

Unless you're planning on going through the engine anyway?

Yes, I have tried starting fluid.
I haven't decided if i'm going to go through this engine or find a reman engine.

Tear it apart and check its condition? Doesnt take too long once out. If the cylinders are withing spec and your heads are not cracked, already doing better than a lot of other blocks.

The odometer reads 277K (original miles).
Is it possible to re-ring and new bearings?

I don't want to have to get any machining work done.
If it needs machining work I may look for a re-manufactured long block.

You could ****** berry hone it and do new rings to get by, but don't expect any miracles.

You’d need to get in there to really know. Kind of a catch 22
Exactly. I've seen one engine that needed another head due to the chuffing. The truck had 305,000 mile on it. The cylinders probably didn't have .004" wear on them. I did only see 4 since I only pulled one head off.

Have you tried warming it through with the block heater?

A good heat soak can help free up stuck rings, and help get you closer to ignition temperatures.
