Love my '94 a lot but the road noise, engine noise (I love it, except on a 5 hour + trip ) and rattles are a bit much, how much success have people had quieting the whole cab down a bit with some dynamat ( or a cheaper alternative obviously not as good.) I'm thinking of pulling the seats and carpets, doing the bottom of cab, and try to do the firewall as best as I can, I know it'll never be as quiet as a 99+ obviously, but a bit would go a long way, mostly trying to keep the wife happy about owning an old "Pile" of a truck lol.

I'm in the same boat with my '86. I installed a turbo and 4 inch exhaust with a resonator, and while the engine sounds great, not much of a fan of it on long drives. The issue I found with these trucks is the complete lack of insulation or sound deadening on the sheet metal, which results in driving around in a tin drum! I pulled and refinished my interior this summer, and before reinstalling, covered the bare roof panels, rear quarters, rear panel under the glass ect with self adhesive Frost King duct insulation. The product is a foil backed foam, made to insulate and quiet hvac ducts. Three rolls took care of the cab, and cost about 60 bucks. It cut the harmonic vibrations, was easy to install, and also helps insulate the cab from heat, and hopefully cold. I am going to step up and install dyna- mat on the floor around the exhaust when I pull the carpet, and get a new hood blanket when I install my new(er) front clip. Also take the time to tighten every screw and bolt in the cab that you possibly can. Pay attention to your roof support ribs, as the caulking (dum-dum) degrades and separates, causing the roof to reverberate. I cleaned and siliconed mine. My old girl has zillions of miles and looks like she escaped the wrecking yard, but currently has no rattles from the interior. Just takes some time and patience.

I have an old trooper that was the worst collection of road noise, and rattles you've ever heard.

I used "grace brand water and ice shield". It's a roof underlayment. A LOT cheaper than dynamat.

And you can get it in rolls about a foot wide, for putting around windows and doors on houses. Makes it easier to work with.

I put it on the floor, the roof, and inside all the doors. made a HUGE difference.

Everyone warned me that it would smell like asphalt in there. (NO ONE had ever tried it. Just a bunch of nervous nancies.) I never smelled a thing. Not even on the hottest days.

The funny part is, my dad probably has 1000 ft of that stuff and I never thought about using it. I'm going to try a couple things, the truck is just such a tin can, which is great and annoying at the same time.

Yep, it’s the quietest cab I’ve ever been in. You can have a compressor running next to the door and you wouldn’t notice it with the doors shut

NICE!

My truck will get some kind of treatment of at least the firewall, as soon as I am able to do it. But no big treatment overall like you guys, until at least next summer.

For now, to get through the winter firewall may be as simple as a piece of an old rug.

I remember removing the factory sound dampening stuff that was on top of plastic fender liners under the hood, only because it was ugly and damn,,,,,,,,,, that was a bad move! If that factory stuff was available somewhere, I'd love to buy it and reverse my stupid mistake of removing it.

Going up the bridge with the concrete barricade next to the exhaust pipe, My wife wasn't a super happy camper when I was to the floor with the camper, and windows down... Sounds too good to put a muffler back on though..
