I will say gasser columns are the same as diesel (ran an 84 gasser column in my 91 IDI). What likely happened is the actuator in the column broke. Very common and parts are available to fix that too.

Probably put gear oil in the transmission instead of ATF which is what is specd.

She might be smoking because I highly doubt he had it properly timed if/after he installed the injectors.

Looks like a decent foundation for a project though! Congrats!

Thanks man. I’ve heard conflicting specs on whether it’s gear oil or ATF.

I can almost guarantee he didn’t time anything.

No problem. Yeah if he used gear oil that might be the whole problem. Easy enough to try changing the fluid out.

There should be a write up somewhere here for changing that actuator in the column. I've never done it yet personally though. I just swapped the column out when mine broke.

Anybody had any luck using additives of any kind to quiet down a noisy trans? I’d like to push out a full rebuild for a little while.

The best luck I've heard of was I think something from Amsoil instead of generic ATF but I don't recall what for sure.

Is it noisy all the time or just part time?

It is only really noisy in 4th and 5th Gear. 4th is not as loud as 5th. 5th really screams.
