Truck is currently sitting on the side of the road.

Cruising 40mph. Everything shuts down. All lights interior and exterior. all power, gauges, radio, engine, everything all at once... Access in the dark for over an hour. Cut the red fusible link wire that runs from starter solenoid across the radiator support and on back up to the firewall area. Reconnected said wire to SS. Nothing.

Emergency flashers work.
Brake lights work.

Key on truck will jump on SS positive to S and turn over. No fire

Please help! Thanks

I agree... but right now he's stuck on the roadside?
If there's no power to the FSS it won't run. You can connect a jumper from the battery direct to the FSS, then turn the engine over with your other jumper. May be hard to start without functioning glow plugs if it's real cold though. Or are they working?

So if I run a positive jumper to the FSS the truck will start and stay running? Can it be driven this way if so? Of course it won’t have lights or gauges if so?

GP system is manual and when I hit the button the glow plug light comes on telling me yes they are functioning

Yes sir, one of the best things about these engines-- the whole thing will run with 12v to just the FSS. (Assumimg you can start it)

YES! These are 1-wire motors; aside from no glow plugs, that single wire(to FRONT terminal on IP) is all you need for the engine to run.

Then just jump the fender well solenoid, use ether if needed, off you go.

Unfortunately, no was already gone when I made the thread. But we got it off the side of the road into a cattle gate entrance to someone’s pasture. Will be able to get it going in the morning and back to the house. Really hate leaving it there overnight but nothing I can do now.

These engines are simple, I’m sure you’ll get it :)

Anyone have a pic of the correct wire I’m running the jumper wire to on the FSS?

Thanks

The connector you are looking for is on the radiator end of the IP. On the drivers side front is a spade connector, that’s the FSS.... Just remember you will have to disconnect that wire to shut the engine down.

The connector in the red circle. Mine has a yellow replacement crimp terminal.

You must be registered for see images attach

Has anyone ever redone the fuel shutoff solenoid so that it opens with no power, and shuts off fuel when it gets power? Then we would only need 12VDC to shut down, not to run. As long as you could push start it, it would be a zero wire engine.

Search here about manual shutoff solenoids........
