I wrote to FoMoCo about them adding an absolute bare bones model just high tech enough to be legal and offering it for like 15k would anyone actually buy it? I'm talking like 4 speed manual, crank windows, no gps/touch screen crap, just a normal truck like what was being made in 1985 but in 2019.

That’s exactly why I would never buy a new truck. Half the cost of a 90k platinum is all crap you don’t need. What’s wrong with google maps off your phone? Heated power mirrors, c’mon... I don’t need the vehicle to tell me it might be slick when I can see snow falling from the sky. Hell yes I’d buy a 15k bare bones truck. I’d get really excited about a 25k bare bones diesel. Till that day, I’ll buy used and fix em up

Same with me. I'd only buy a new work truck for a fleet anyway.

Problem is all the new regulations. I was recently told that all new cars (not sure about pickups) had to have backup cameras. Don't know what other specs new vehicle need, but that isn't needed when I'm driving. Rented a car recently and it had the camera, never used it, forgot it was there. As for the 4 speed, probably mpg/tow rating related.

For me thought about the back up camera where I park my boat of a truck is sometimes sketchy or ******* people park way close n eh would be nice if it was a remote where u can set it on a camper or trailer for back up reasons if ur towing a 20ft +teailer.

As for new trucks or cars I'll pass anything new then "02 is junk to me it looks nice but I won't use half the stuff in it

AC, tilt , cruise control. only options needed. thats what makes older trucks so cool. my truck has those three and they all work at 375,000 miles. I wouldn't buy a new truck if I won the lottery, I would have a concours resto done on a 67-72 Ford crewcab and put in a 7.3 powerstroke/ZF5 .

all the new trucks looks so similar to each other , the big 3 anyhow.

Need to do something about the stretched out height.
I find it odd how tall new pickups are with less ground clearance.
A big appeal of a pickup is the box for hauling stuff. Why make them so high off the ground that it is more convenient to use a trailer then the box.

They make those work trucks now, just not the way you want it. You can’t quite get it for 15k though because They can’t build them that cheap. And when you add the bigger motors, the price is higher. The most frustrating thing is that they limit powertrain choices now so you often can’t even get the best powertrain unless you have the expensive truck.

Seems that way across the board. GM did that with the diesel cobalt. Most who would have liked the mileage, wanted a “cheap commuter”. The only way you could get the diesel was in the top of the line LS, that was the most expensive option. I think that’s why they only lasted a couple years.

I know my neighbor bought an 18 F-150. It’s a white, non eco boost V-6, 2wd, vinyl seat, rubber floor..... I think he said it was right at $18,000....

I bought a 1989 F150 Custom 2wd short new. it was the basic inline 6 with 5spd manual, but had tilt cruise and AC. and was right close to 14,000 Canadian at the time. probably around 11,000 US.

my last new truck was a 1996 F250 SC shortbed 4wd powerstroke ZF XLT with offroad package , aluminum wheels , keyless etc. it listed at $39,900 CAN in 96 . same truck today would be in the 70,000 list range. I only paid 33,000 ish but was workign for a Ford dealer at the time.

considering how everything else has gone up in the same period. 18,000 for a bare bones pickup doesn't sound that bad. :dunno

Ford should have put a twin overhead cam head on the 4.9 efi and turbo charged it. would have been amazing:cheers:
