I know all the old Tandems had I6 gassers in them, bolted to a 2 or 3 speed 7.16 or so rear.
Needless to say, 55mph was asking alot

The 300 straight 6 remained the base model engine in ALL F-series (F150, F250 and F350!) 1965-1997.

It was popular in cube vans, moving trucks and company trucks over 15,000 pounds.

The 300 was also available in 1980's Ford F600's.

With the right trans./gearing can pull a house if you can grab traction!

Sure they ain't speed machines, but will defenently do the job without complaint!

Well you had a light duty and heavy duty F-250. The 250LD had the 300, 302 or the 351W and the 250HD had the 7.3 or the 460.

I dont know man I think the 300 straight six was the best engine ford ever made

F250HD had the 300, 351, 7.3 Diesel or 460. Same engines for F350's also.

Only the 1988-1997 F-Super Duty (F450) had 2 engine options, 7.3 or 460.

I have to agree that Fords 300 was one of the best engines Ford ever produced. I've had 4 of them and am still amazed. I've pulled some pretty heavy loads with one. Not very fast mind you (gears), but it did pull it without question.

I also was under the assumption:

LD= 8.8 Rear
HD= 10.25 rear

But could be wrong...

I had a 83 F350 dually rack truck. 300 6 cyl and a 4 speed. Empty it would get to 55mph(top speed) pretty quick for what is was and loaded, didnt make too much difference

300 I6 best dayum engine Ford ever build. Simple, dependable, easy to work on and pretty good on fuel too.

I'd buy a 300 I6 over a 302 V8 any day. Only problem I ever had with the one in my 82 F150 was it liked to chuck the fan belt at 90 mph:angel:
