Transmission Service

I am embarking on a transmission service journey. 1995 7.3L 5 speed manual transmission. I have found several different types of fluid that are recommended Mercon ATF, synthetic as one. Questions? I have not done this to a diesel or a manual trans so forgive of my ignorance thats why I am here to learn.

What is the best type of fluid to replace?
Is there a filter? Where is it at?
Is there a torque converter if so how do I drain it?

Use what is recommended for the Zf-5, there are no filters or torque converter.

Torque converters are only found on automatic transmissions. ZF REQUIRES synthetic ATF in this transmission when used behind a diesel engine.
