Timing???

A friend asked me to help him set his timing on a 6.5. I have the tool that clamps onto the #1 injector line and makes my timing light blink. What is the proper procedure for these? Idle or revved up? Where do they run best?

Well is it the ds4 or mechanical db2 like the fords?

Mechanical like my ford

Remember the pump turns the opposite direction.
Most are doing 4.5 BTDC @1300 RPM.
