I been swapping in a 97 cummins into my ford f350 and when i had the engine out i ground the fuel plate and increased the governor springs 2 clicks. I set the timing to 14 degrees i though. I didn't check the rocker arms when doing it but i did check the pin on the side of the pump along with the timing pin below the injection pump. I had a gauge that should have worked but wasn't made for this engine but a bigger cummins and it might not have gone all the way down into the delivery valve hole. The reason i think it is to far advanced is because it has a lot of white smoke and even once got some black smoke out of the intake. The truck is hard to start also but this is the first start in a couple months. I also had a hard time setting the timing because each time i went to set the timing the pump with spring back taking my timing off.
