Radio/climate control install question

My truck is 1989, so 87-91 I think are the same. I would like to move the climate controls down to the radio slot and move the radio up to the climate control slot. I have seen pictures of earlier models with the configuration that I want to go to. Has anyone actually made the swap in a 87-91 truck?
