While cleaning the side of the block in preparation for when the oil cooler will go back on I noticed this hole plugged where the front header would go that I thought oil was supposed to flow through. It looks factory but I wanted to know for sure from those who know. Btw it's a 83 6.9

yup that's stock, just checked 4 7.3's they all have them.

Maybe that one is open on the vans, and the other is plugged.

The other dip stick hole is the location the big S1600 idi engines see the sump oil level from. Those oil pans are turned around compared to a van or pickup truck sump. They also have a different oil pump suction line too because of the front sump location.

Maybe they used it for something during the casting process? Then they plugged it since it wasn't really necessary?

Its the plug for that main bearing galley to main oil galley.
